We stayed in Carlisle for a couple of nights. The hotel was a 5 minute walk from the station and close to the city centre. There were a lot of pubs and restaurants close by which was convenient. The hotel was clean and comfortable.
Second stay here. Hotel is lovely. Well located if your travelling by train and easy to get to all parts of the lake district by bus too. Rooms are nice. Beds comfy. Breakfast is served instead of a buffet which makes it nicer. Had dinner included this stay. First night was a really nice 3 course menu. Second night was an allowance against a reduced menu which wasn't so good but didn't detract from our stay. Staff are really friendly too.
Room was a good size. Plenty of parking available. Swimming pool was nice. Nice view of the lake from the gardens. Very friendly staff. Lovely food. Pleasant gardens. The lounge was relaxing with nice sofa .
Some minor issues:
Lack of shower pressure , toilet wouldn't flush properly, blood stain on the floor of the toilet, took ages to get hot water through for showering
ผผู้เข้าพักI have grave misgivings about hotels in the busiest parts of the Lake District, especially at holiday times. Obviously they will be relentlessly overcrowded, with harassed and unfriendly staff. I’ve wanted to go back to the Proper Lake District for a while though so took a risk on the King’s Head. It’s easy to find on the ear popping main road up from Grasmere, just beyond the impressive hulk of Steel Fell, close to Thirlemere. Parking anywhere in the Lakes is hideous and expensive. Not here. Relaxed and plenty of room. It’s a long building with a pleasant bar restaurant area and beer garden. I found a rather pleasant residents lounge where a lady called Jo checked me in and made me feel welcome. It does get busy with passing trade but the staff look after their residents. They flogged me decent real ale and Jura whisky (the proper stuff). Breakfast is briskly table served from a menu and is well presented. I didn’t eat otherwise there but the food is popular and well priced. The road outside is busy and a bit of a racetrack, and the occasional fighter jet roars between the mountains on low altitude practice, but the relentless bleating of the sheep opposite soon returns things to normal. I was a little sorry to depart, but the manager said he hoped I would come again. I believe I will, and will even bring my wife.

ผผู้เข้าพักVery old looking run down needs totally decorating from top to bottom …..
killed 5 flees in my bed not a clean place .
On the plus side the food . evening meal was good breakfast was fab …. Entertainment was good. Bar was busy people dancing throughout the night every one enjoying their self’s
ผผู้เข้าพักThe hotel I was originally booked in had a flood so at the last minute I had to find another one, I found Arkale lodge and it didn’t disappoint, the rooms are pretty basic, but extremely clean which in my book is more important than a fancy room. And certainly good enough for the price I paid, the gentleman that showed me around was friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was from 7 which was perfect for my continuation of my Hadrians wall walk.
The Breakfast was included in the room price and was exceptional (full English, which I easily adapted as a non meat eater)
It was plentiful, delicious and freshly made. And a great start to my long tiring day
Thank You so Much
For your kind hospitality
Cathie :)
BBrian PaulA beautiful little hotel, I think there are only 6 rooms though. All staff were on hand for any queries and help in any way they can. During my stay it was lovely and sunny and they have an outdoor area idea for a while in the sun 😂.
If you have any sort of disability and find it difficult to climb stairs this place is probably not for you, no lift in the hotel and all rooms are upstairs, the car park is at the back of the hotel with steps up to the hotel that has a hand rail but the few steps into the hotel doesn’t. I was in room 6, 3 lots of stairs to negotiate but the view was spectacular.
LLisaStayed in one of the 4 garden cabins. Each are angled in such a way that they are all private. Each has its own hot tub and log burner. The cabin was cosy at night and well maintained. The cabin has WiFi, a tv, tea/coffee station, sofa and ensuite. Towels are provided for the bathroom plus separate towels, a robe and slippers for the hot tub. Breakfast was buffet but included hot self-service english breakfast items. I have to give credit to the person on reception when I checked in who greeted me with a smile and was friendly and helpful. I'll definitely be back.
