We stayed at the Shangri-la after a week of being in Tibet. It was a nice change from the more Chinese style hotels we had stayed in and was ideal for the night before our flight out. The rooms are great and we booked one with a bath. The shower was very powerful and hot. The breakfast buffet was, by Chinese standards, decent for western options and the evening buffer was good for approx 200rmb/person if you're in need of more western options.
The big plus for me was the gym. Decent by most hotel standards and had a good mix of resistance machines, cardio and free weights (mainly dumbbells of up to 20kg plus a pair of 27.5kg). The only thing missing from the gym really is a squat rack but otherwise very good. Would stay again.
We stayed at St Regis at the beginning and end of our Tibet trip, it feels like home! All the staff are very friendly and helpful. Especially the reception lady Irene Liu and the one served us at restaurant named Ruth! Both are extremely helpful and nice, highly recommend !

PPregretCons:
- Hotel expects you to have your own car? They don't have any car service to drive you anywhere, you are expected to arrange your own taxi, which is not easy in this area
- The spa services were too expensive for the quality of masseuse skills
- The western food options were very limited for dinner
- Can't do much activities if you only check-in for one night stay
Pros:
- Design is nice and elegant. Rooms are big and clean
- Breakfast food and views are great
Overall I don't think our experience was worth this price, but maybe if we stayed longer we could enjoy the offerings more. I would not stay here if I am not driving a car, as you will be trapped in the hotel area.
