The hotel is fairly centrally located (about a 15 minute walk), but at the same time in a quiet area. The room was huge, for lack of a better term - it's basically a lounge, a twin room and a double room. Not sure if that's actually the room I booked or an upgrade. At any rate, it was clean and had all the necessary amenities. The outer design is also very nice. There's also afternoon tea for free from 15:30 till 16:30. The price is not particularly low, but all things considered it's value for money (only 25-30% more expensive than a private room in a hostel), especially if more than one person is staying. All in all, a great option, if your budget allows it.
An absolutely fabulous place. Really playing on yhe history of the building all while still giving privacy, security and fun.
Location is super close to a variety of restaurants, cafes and take-away stores, and a general store for those forgotten small items.
Parking is free but it's a first come, first serve scenario.
I loved staying there and highly recommend to any traveler looking for a funky and reasonably priced accommodation.
GGarth McMillanI thoroughly enjoyed my 2 nights stay. Friendly staff, nice warm clean unit with a great outlook. Bed was comfortable which isn't always the case in a Motel . A garage for my car below my unit was very handy
ผผู้เข้าพักI am writing to formally express my profound disappointment and dissatisfaction with the service provided by the Crowne Plaza hotel in Christchurch, New Zealand. My booking was for 5 rooms to accommodate a group of 9 family and friends, including young children and elderly members.
Understanding that our group had specific needs, I proactively contacted the hotel in advance via email to politely request the possibility of an early check-in.
The hotel’s response was both disappointing and unreasonable. They stated that an early check-in was not possible and suggested that if we wanted rooms available upon our arrival, we should book and pay for an additional night for the previous day. This response felt exploitative, implying that rooms were available but only for an additional charge, rather than as a gesture of goodwill or customer care.
Accepting this, we adjusted our plans and arrived at the hotel after 3:00 PM, the official check-in time. To our great frustration, none of our five rooms were ready. The first room was only made available at 3:30 PM, and the last room was not provided until 4:30 PM—a full 90 minutes after the guaranteed check-in time. This caused significant inconvenience, discomfort, and stress for our group, especially given the presence of young children and elderly individuals who were tired after travel.
As a loyal customer of the IHG brand who has stayed at their properties across Asia, I have always trusted their standards of hospitality. Unfortunately, this experience at the Crowne Plaza Christchurch represents the worst service I have ever encountered from IHG. The combination of an unaccommodating and profit-driven response to a reasonable request, followed by a failure to meet even the basic check-in commitment, reflects poorly on both the hotel and Trip.com as the booking agent.
MMiSs TEe 1963Arrived late afternoon..straight into the apartment
Was lovely and clean and great facilties.
Although we had an accessible room , shower was good.
Free laundry facilties a bonus.
Location very good. Encounter coffee was just a short walk away and the ocean was in eyesight.
Loved Kaikoura even though was just a short stop en route to Nelson.
Scenery amazing and Pier restaurant had great seafood.
Very calm and serene atmosphere. Mountains in the distance and visiting the seals was lovely.
VVTEOKevin and June are friendly and approachable. The rooms are provided with the basic amemities. The location is convenient since we are driving. The only drawback is our rooms are on the upper level and there is no elevator.
