I stayed at the Doncaster Mercure from March 29 until Sunday, April 2. I found the hotel to be average at best. The gym was terrible, breakfast buffet average at best and the staff absolutely horrible (& very rude). I arrived late on the 29 (close to midnight). I could hear the staff in the back room, but nobody seemed interested in checking me in. I finally got their attention and checked in successfully. I did not like the room (3rd level, directly across the small courtyard from the gym. Very little sunlight and very little privacy, unless you kept the curtains closed. However the worst part was checking out!!!!!! I had no idea check out was at 11:00 AM. I was not told upon check in and there were no notices in the room (I was planning to check out at noon). I received a phone call from the front desk at 11:00 AM asking me if I was checking out. When I responded yes, I was informed very rudely that check out was at 11:00. When I asked for an extension, the person ( I am assuming the manager) said ”No” - no explanation, nothing. I managed to get packed and checked out at 11:35. When I suggested to the person who called me that it would be nice to know what time check out is, he simply said 11:00 AM was ”standard” in Australia and i should have known that. I do not live in Australia and, actually from my travels around the world, 12:00 Noon is the the usual check out time. This person was very rude, belittled me for believing that noon was the norm and and made no attempts to make the situation better. My next stop was Sydney, at the Radisson Blu Hotel. Guess what - the checkout time was noon and, if requested 1:00 PM at no extra charge. I will never stay at the Doncaster Mercure again. The hotel is OK, certainly manageable. But the front desk staff are rude, very unfriendly and not customer oriented.
