Parliament Square is one of the most famous scenic spots in Helsinki. The magnificent Helsinki Cathedral is situated here. The square is designed by German architect Karl Engel. It is surrounded by beautiful buildings of neoclassical style, which shows a magnificent momentum. In addition to the Helsinki Cathedral to the north, the University of Helsinki to the West and the Old Town Hall to the east of the square are also built by Carl Engel. On the south side stands a bronze statue of Russian Czar Alexander II, built in 1894. The statue is designed by W&183 Runeberry to commemorate the Czar's contribution to Finnish autonomy. On the parliamentary square paved with 3,000 square meters of stone, the statue of the Russian Czar is even more magnificent and solemn.
