Carlmen is located in Munich, capital of Bavaria in southern Germany. It is the gate to the west of Munich's old city. It separates the old city from the suburbs of Ludwig. The west gate of the medieval fortifications built by Carlmen for Louis IV is an important access to Munich's historical center. Calmen was once one of Munich's busiest areas, part of the second wall of Munich built by Louis IV from 1285 to 1347, named after Carl Teodor, founder of Carl Square.
