The Benaki Museum is one of Greece's leading private museums. Anthony Benaki was born in Egypt. After doing business, he devoted himself to the collection of works of art. Later, he settled in Athens. He decided to donate the works of art he had collected for many years and use his private house as the exhibition site. After several years of preparation, the museum was officially opened to the public in 1931. The Museum has a rich collection of sculptures, paintings, jewellery and so on. Its time span extends from ancient Greece and Rome to modern times.
