Owh forgot about the room smell, smells draft abit
Recommended hotel but need to step up on the culinaries.
The weather was sunny during our short stay there. The kids enjoyed swimming at the pool. The rooftop seaview was superb. The homestay was studio type but it's fine for small family. Overall it was a relaxing stay at Home Deco homestay. The service also excellent. 👍
This is our 3rd stay at Sky Hotel. We booked a 2-bedroom suite and checked in at night, but unfortunately the room was not clean. There was dust and powder on the sofa, the floor was sticky and dusty, some flooring was chipped, and there was an unpleasant smell.
We called reception to request a room change but were told the hotel was full. Housekeeping came to check and confirmed the room condition. We took some photos and went down to the reception counter, after discussingabout 10 minutes, the reception offered us an upgrade to a bigger suite, which was clean and much better.
Appreciate the staff for resolving the issue quickly, but the room cleanliness should be improved.
Sabah Oriental Hotel in Kota Kinabalu (often cited on Kayak, Agoda, and Tripadvisor) offers a budget-friendly, central, yet aged, 4-star experience with mixed reviews. While praised for its convenient location near malls, friendly staff, and decent pool, many guests report needing urgent renovations, describing rooms as dated, with some issues regarding cleanliness and subpar, noisy air conditioning.
Pros: Convenient location (near Imago Mall/city center), friendly service, spacious rooms, and a nice pool.
Cons: Very old infrastructure, worn-out furniture, poor air conditioning, and inconsistent cleanliness in bathrooms.
Best For: Budget-conscious travelers looking for a central spot, or quick, short-term stays.
Overall Sentiment
Value: 7.0/10 (”Good”).
Cleanliness/Condition: Frequently criticized as needing maintenance.
Service: Generally rated positively for staff friendliness.
Recommendations
- Request a room that has been refurbished.
- Ensure the air conditioning works immediately upon check-in.
- Ideal for those looking to stay near the city center without paying luxury prices.
MMongGrThe location is good. Not that near to town center. Parking is definitely a challenge since its opposite a shopping mall. Traffic rather congested around hotel. Nearby parking is at least Rm6 per entry.
There are mosquito in the room and I dont know how they got there. Room cleanliness is acceptable. Swimming pool and gym facility is decent. Sufficient for light usage.
Buffet breakfast is rather bland (I stayed for 5 nights include weekend) all the same repetitive food.
Cost wise i think is worthy since the price include breakfast.
Picture attach are the food I found at the shopping mall beside.
EElizabeth Ong Hui LingService is excellent. Staff do not hesitate to help, always address travellers politely, and take the initiative to serve water, give suggestions, overall making your experience smooth and fulfilling.
Food is also very delicious — other reviews say the food is pricey, but I think it’s quite affordable and well worth the price.
Rooms are large, comfortable and well-furnished.
Will definitely be back!
