Had a wonderful stay at Sheraton — definitely one of the more memorable hotel experiences I’ve had.
I really appreciated the thoughtful anniversary setup: towel decorations, balloons, and a nicely prepared dessert plate. Small details like this show good service culture and make the stay feel personal rather than just transactional.
Location is also a strong point — convenient access to the city area while still feeling calm inside the hotel. Overall ambience is quiet, cozy, and suitable for both couples and business travellers.
Overall: great hospitality, comfortable room quality, and good attention to guest experience. I’d definitely come back again.
I booked this hotel for one night. The location is not very convenient as there aren’t many food options nearby, but it is quite close to the airport. Due to our flight timing, we arrived at the hotel earlier than usual. We understood the official check-in time, so we politely asked if there was any chance of checking in earlier. If not, we were willing to wait, we only hoped they could let us know once a room became available.
There were two counters. We were initially at the second counter (one next away from the 1st counter), but the receptionist asked my husband to move to the first one. No issue, we moved over as instructed.
During the check-in process, the male receptionist repeatedly asked whether I booked online. I answered yes, yet he asked the same question again. Since he already had my IC in his hand, I expected he could see the booking details in the system. I honestly didn’t understand why he kept repeating the same question.
I then politely asked if we could get a room earlier should there be any available. Instead of responding in a friendly or helpful manner, he kept repeating, “Our check-in time is 2pm,” more than three times over our check-in process. We clearly understood the check-in time, but his tone and attitude were not friendly at all. A simple “If we have a room available, we’ll try to arrange it for you” would have been enough, but instead he just repeated the same answer without any consideration.
On top of that, both receptionists, the male and the female were chatting and laughing among themselves at the counter in front of guests, which felt quite unprofessional.
Still, we were thankful that we eventually managed to get our room at 12:35pm.
Overall, the experience was disappointing and lacked basic hospitality. I’ve been travelling and staying in different hotels, and I’ve never encountered service this unfriendly before.
I recently stayed at Hyatt Regency Kinabalu and had a wonderful experience. The hotel is perfectly located in the heart of Kota Kinabalu, making it very convenient to explore the city. My room offered a stunning sea view, and watching the beautiful sunset from the comfort of the room was truly unforgettable. The environment was relaxing, clean, and well maintained, creating a pleasant atmosphere throughout the stay. One highlight was the superb Japanese food, which was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Overall, Hyatt Regency Kinabalu delivered comfort, great views, and excellent dining.
Checking in at midnight was so smooth, the receptionist was very helpful and the hotel is beautifully designed. It is so nice to be able to sit outside, at the balcony.
The in room dining food was super nice and the staff attended to our fussy needs with a smile. Love the nasi lemak pyjamas like uniform.
Hope to be back for a longer sta
CCoughfeeThe view is very pretty and marvellous concept for glamping. Good for those want to be away from town. Since it was far away, there is no nearby restaurant except for burger stalls at the nearby village. Luckily, there is a cafe currently within the area. Dinner and lunch shouldnt be a problem here. Only to be improved is the facilities as most of the toilets showers are deteriorating but still useable. There is a big tree house in the middle but it is closed down for visitors. Overall, its a good getaway for clearing up your mind from your routine busy life.
ผผู้ใช้ไม่ระบุชื่อI didn’t pay much attention to the hotel’s details because I was out scuba diving every day. This hotel is old, so if you’re looking for a super clean and modern feel, this isn’t the place for you. They provide a good breakfast, and the staff even packed it for me since I had to leave early for diving. The location isn’t far from the main center, and there are plenty of shops nearby, which is convenient if you want to buy snacks or grab a quick meal.
ผผู้ใช้ไม่ระบุชื่อThis is our family trip to Malaysia, and we have two elders and a baby with us. Considering the check-in time was 3 AM, we booked two days so we could enter early in the morning and rest. Honestly, when you’re traveling with family, you just do whatever is most convenient as long as it’s affordable. The apartment has a great location—literally 15–18 minutes from the airport. All the food spots and supermarkets are within walking distance. It’s just an all-around great package for a first-time visitor to the city.
It was easy to sign in at security and get access to the apartment. The elevator is a bit slow because there are many residents in the building, but it’s acceptable. Once we entered the room, the AC was already on—what a breeze to welcome us on arrival. The room was clean, everything tidy. There were even clear instructions in the shower on how to use the water heater, which made things a lot easier. My in-laws took a nice hot shower after a 3-hour flight delay, and it was such a relief.
Later in the day—maybe because of the red-eye flight and the massive delay—the fatigue kicked in. Plus, we’re not used to the humid and hot Malaysian weather. My father-in-law started having a fever. I had Tylenol and other medicines ready in the bag, but we clearly needed a plan B.
I reached out to the owner immediately. My father-in-law was feeling cold even after the fever subsided. The owner contacted his friend in the same building right away and got us an extra blanket.
Plan B was to cancel our driving trip to Mount Kinabalu the next day. Since my father-in-law was sick, having him in the car for a 2–3 hour drive wouldn’t help his rest. And if things got worse while we were up in the mountains, he wouldn’t get the medical attention he needed in the middle of nowhere. It was better to cancel and stay in the city. So naturally, if we could extend the room and let him rest another day, he might recover enough for us to continue the rest of the trip.
Unfortunately, the room was already booked for the next day. The owner told us we could book another room and he’d try to let us check in earlier to make the transition easier.
After we booked the new room, I believe he made some arrangements behind the scenes. He later texted us saying we could stay in the same room tomorrow—no room change needed.
I’m really thankful to such an understanding owner, someone who genuinely cares and makes the effort to help a random visitor like me. I told him I’d write down this positive experience to share with others. Hopefully, it brings him more business.
NNevennaThe place is wonderful, my view in the morning from a lovely balcony is impossible to capture in a photo, the smell of a sea breeze and the sounds of birds everywhere. The rooms are very clean and beautiful, they capture the esthetics of the Kota Kinabalu. It is a minute away from the beautiful and vast beach, it is absolutely an underrated place. The staff is great, they have let me check in early, and also, there’s a luggage storage, so I was able to just bring a backpack to my outing trip for couple of days. Also, it is near the airport, which is a plus if you plan on traveling further in Sabah by local flights. Thank you very much for being a good host, O will choose this place again for sure! ☀️
