Very Serene and calm setting. It is a treat for oneself to be here. Modern house with amazing views of the mountains and fields. Amenities are luxurious and in the style of a muji hotel. Clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was filling and nutritious and the fresh milk was a real treat. Ancient city a little far to walk 1km when cold but host provided transport to the ancient town. Host both welcoming and generous with her time and suggestions. Memorable stay and town. We wish her every success. Thank you!!

We had an amazing stay at Whispering Rain Cottage! The staff were extremely helpful coordinating a driver to Tiger Leaping Gorge and the facilities were beautifully designed. I could honestly spend all day in the courtyard enjoying the lovely environment. It felt like we were transported back in time but with modern amenities. If you are visiting Shaxi I would 100% recommend this stay!

Modern hotel in an excellent location. Shaxi is not big In itself and thus, all of the attractions/must visit places are walkable distance away. The hotel is still relatively new and the features are well maintained. Service is good too with complementary welcome drink, afternoon tea and night dessert provided.

The stay was amazing and we would highly recommend for couples and families who want to have a break from the city and enjoy some countryside life in Shaxi. Our friends recommended us to stay here, it was such a hidden gem! The staff was very friendly and helpful. We had issues with arranging departure transportation and the owner lady helped us to solve it immediately. And they always welcomed us whenever we came back, it made us feel at home. The hotel was located at a quite location, about 5 min walk from the village. The hotel had a large front yard with some nice seating area, and there were many lovely wooden art pieces on the first floor for us to appreciate. Our room was clean and spacious with a a very big balcony, we had our best time chilling on the balcony during sunset, so beautiful. The amenities were luxurious and fresh yummy strawberries were provided to us everyday! Not to mention, the breakfast was healthy and yummy, it had western and local version alternating. We feel so lucky to stay here and it definitely exceeded our expectations!! Will come back again.

Genuinely one of the best homestays I’ve stayed in in all my years of traveling to China. The owner, 武哥, puts a lot of work into maintaining a beautiful courtyard full of roses, succulents, and fruit trees—but more importantly, is just a wonderful person. He consistently went above and beyond into making my stay feel like home, from sharing home-cooked meals to introducing me to all sorts of local specialties I otherwise wouldve never found. Additionally, the building itself is also quite special in fully preserving its traditional Bai wooden architecture. Location: It’s tucked away in a quiet village (you’ll see sights like a guy who walks his herd of goats at the same time every morning) but also has attractions nearby, including a convenient 10-min walk to the backhills of Shibao Mountain to see ancient grottoes. Shaxi Old Town is about a 25 minute walk away, but the homestay also has bikes or electric scooters that you can borrow. Amenities: My favorite room was the study, which has full, wall-to-ceiling bookshelves. There are also several outside seating areas that overlook the nearby mountains and fields with amazing views at sunset. If you come in spring, the aroma of honeysuckle adds to the ambiance too, and you can see stars at night. Cleanliness: Spotless. All in all, I truly couldn’t recommend a better place. I learned that many of its guests return every year for several weeks or months at a time. Clearly it’s a place that people treasure, and for good reason. At its core, this homestay defines what makes Shaxi so special: human connection, peaceful village living, and giving you the space to slow down and appreciate.

Location- quite a distance from old town but the owner will send you Service- service was generally good. The Nai Nai and lady boss looked after our needs well. We did our laundry but since we were going to the old town, they offered to help us take out the laundry, put in the dryer and placed the clean clothes in our room after. A very sweet gesture. Nai Nai also cooked excellent homely breakfast. Even my fussy kids ate well! One area to improve on is the complimentary tie-dye activity. we had to ask the owner 3 times before we got the voucher. And he only gave us one voucher (despite us being entitled to one per day and we booked a 3 day 2 nights stay). The tie dye is a handkerchief (cannot upgrade to clothes). My son really enjoyed the activity! Amenities - the hotel exterior is traditional and renovated. The room interior is modern and high tech. The light over our dining table was spoilt so we had to eat in the dark and try to use the toilet light to improve visuality Overall, a very nice family-run hotel that seems to be recently renovated, very clean with good amenities.

We had a wonderful one-night stay here. The hotel kindly offered us a complimentary room upgrade. The receptionist was very friendly and helped us arrange a car to another city, making our travel so much easier. Shaxi itself is a charming town — peaceful, relaxing, and perfect for a slow-living experience. Highly recommend for anyone looking to unwind and enjoy the local charm.
