"**⭐☆☆☆☆ — A Deeply Disappointing Stay: Poor Service, Indifference, and Possible Discrimination** *Maritim Hotel & Spa Balaclava, Mauritius — May 2026 | 1-Night Half Board | Family Stay --- We had high hopes for our first visit to Maritim Balaclava. Sadly, what we experienced was one of the most disappointing hotel stays our family has had in Mauritius — a country where hospitality is supposed to be a point of national pride. **Check-In: A Forgotten Afterthought** The problems started immediately. Our first group arrived after 3 PM, was handed forms to fill in, and then left entirely unattended. Once finished, we literally had to hunt down the staff just to finalise the check-in — and then had to remind them again to actually hand us our room keys. This is basic hospitality 101, and they failed it within the first 30 minutes. When our second group arrived moments later, we had to prompt staff again — this time to bring welcoming drinks, something that should be a natural, spontaneous gesture at a hotel of this calibre. To make matters worse, we were issued touch cards instead of the magnetic cards required to open our rooms. A minor detail, perhaps, but symptomatic of a front desk operating on autopilot. **Water Ski: A Paid Extra When Every Competitor Offers It Free** We were surprised to learn that water skiing costs MUR 2,000 per person for 10 minutes — an activity offered complimentary as standard at virtually every comparable hotel on the island, including Beachcomber properties. This felt like a clear value gap that the hotel should be upfront about when marketing itself. **Dinner Entertainment: Loud DJ Music Instead of a Live Experience** For a half-board stay at a resort of this standing, we expected a warm, relaxing dinner atmosphere on Saturday evening. Instead, after 8 PM, the hotel blasted loud DJ music — with no live band or singer in sight. It was jarring, inappropriate for a family dinner setting, and completely at odds with the kind of refined, leisurely evening one expects at a resort. It set entirely the wrong tone and made conversation across the table difficult. This is not entertainment — it is noise. **Late Check-Out: A Study in Contradictions** We asked about late check-out the evening before and were told to come back Sunday morning before breakfast to enquire. We did exactly that, only to be told that neither of our two rooms was available due to incoming guests. Fair enough — but here is the insulting part: after we had packed our bags, waited over 25 minutes for porters who never showed up, carried our own luggage to reception ourselves, and raised our complaints at the front desk, a staff member casually offered us the late check-out that had been refused hours earlier. Why was it impossible at 8:30 AM but completely possible once we were furious and standing with our bags at noon? The blatant contradiction showed a complete lack of competence, consistency and zero care for guest convenience which were stagge"

"A great hotel, everything is new and clean, the service is excellent. Everything is included, which is important, as this part of the island has almost no restaurants, cafes, or shops, if any. You can even try lobster for dinner. However, I would draw the management's attention to the cleanliness of the dishes in the dining room. This isn't just my opinion; it's a health issue! A hotel of this caliber should not tolerate "grabbed" plates or, excuse me, unwashed ones. The grounds are very beautiful and well-maintained, but the beach is windy and not the most convenient, though there are swimming pools. If you go to the right, there are more comfortable areas with beautiful views."

"The staff. They’re simply amazing! My wife is lactose intolerant and we arrived tired and late and there was very little choice of food left in the buffet. However this was soon sorted and every day, we were catered for, the brilliant pastry chef (whose name I can’t recall) made a special desert for my wife every single day. I also need to single out a few others for their warmth and generosity, Rishee, the manager, who made sure our stay was wonderful and the staff that catered for us. Ganesha who had more energy than anyone I know. Always happy and always working. Ali who never seems to slow down. Reena for tirelessly checking on us and making sure we were catered for. Chef Outam for cooking us special food, that wasn’t on the menu at Kot Nui. And Mallar, Anilesh & Prince for serving us with such warmth and friendliness. There are many other staff that gave us such great service and they’re as a whole the most wonderful people with great generosity of spirit."

Great food, excellent service, and a superb location made our day very special. A special thanks to Mr. Mohammad, who warmly welcomed us from reception and showed us our rooms. He took the time to explain the Tropical attitude and concept, including Teabaz concept different.flavours . Sustainability initiatives, the authentic Mauritian concept, Tabajì – the real Mauritian experience, rooms minibar and bulk shop concepts. Congratulations to all the chefs ( executive chef Roy and Operation F&B team members(Mr Arvin and team) for delivering such memorable cuisine and hospitality.with dedication . We will definitely be back to stay longer and discover more culinary experiences Thank you Arvin and team for the amazing service. "We enjoyed a fantastic 4-night stay at Tamarina Spa & Golf Boutique Hotel, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth and genuine hospitality. The staff truly go above and beyond to make your stay as pleasant and special as possible. Our Garden Deluxe Room was beautiful and spacious, featuring a king-size bed, a large sofa, a spacious shower and closet area, and a lovely balcony overlooking the palm trees. The pool area is stunning, with beautiful views over Tamarina Bay and plenty of comfortable spots to relax. The food throughout our stay was outstanding. Breakfast offered a wide variety of fresh options, including eggs made to order, crêpes, fresh fruits, yoghurts, nuts, banana bread, and great coffee and tea selections. Lunch by the beach was equally enjoyable, with fresh bread, salads, and delicious fish dishes. Dinner was exceptional every evening, with a varied salad bar, fresh fish and meat dishes, and incredible desserts. Every night brought new flavors and dishes to try. A special mention goes to the chef and management team for preparing personalized vegetarian protein dishes for my wife with tofu and paneer — a thoughtful gesture that made her feel very welcome. Finally, a huge thank you to the amazing team, especially Jenice and Sabine, for their daily kindness and service, as well as Shane, Saahir, Yanish, Pravesh, Michaella, Eloodie, Loanna, Karishma, Sareen, Jean Christophe, and Rachelle. We absolutely loved our stay and truly didn’t want to leave!"
