Visited for a short break. This was our first visit. The hotel met expectations in every way. We had room 7 in the main house. It was well appointed with views to the front lawn. Visitors should be aware that the building is over 300 years old so there are some idiosyncrasies such as uneven floors and creaking floorboards but this is part of the joy of the place. The public rooms are luxurious. We ate in the Oak Room for 3 nights. Food was fantastic. We asked for the “snack menu” on one night to give some variety and that was excellent as well. The grounds are lovely. The staff were excellent, being attentive to every request. All in all, thoroughly recommended.

The Hotel is in a lovely setting and easy to access. From the minute we arrived the staff couldn't do enough for you. They were welcoming and friendly and very accommodating. Sunday lunch was superb, served promptly and everything was hot and well presented. We stayed the night and had a sandwich in the evening which was well priced and very enjoyable especially with a Gin and tonic cocktail! The bedroom was in the old stables area and was characterful, well maintained and clean. facilities in the room were well provided including robes and slippers. I was particularly pleased to see a magnifying mirror in the bathroom, great for those of us with poor eyesight! We used the Spa and once again the staff were very helpful. Good size pool. In the morning breakfast was once again excellent. We had a cooked breakfast which was of a high standard and there was a good selection of pastries and cereals. The atmosphere and ambiance was what you would expect from such a property. We will definately return

Staff pleasant, courtyard room comfortable: dated bedding: blankets, hot and uncomfortable: Thought the dinner menu overpriced £65 two courses£80 for three, breakfast was ok albeit not hot on either morning, sadly will not return

Our stay at Middlethrope was nothing short of magical. The grounds are stunning. The house itself is beautiful and comfortable. The food was some of the best I have ever tasted. The staff was beyond professional and friendly. The place was quiet the days we were there so they upgraded us on a whim. It felt like true luxory. My friend and I spent a whole day just relaxing at the Estate and would not change a thing. It was the highlight of a trip to England.

A wonderful stay in a historic house, a gorgeous room, food to ‘drive’ for and charming and very helpful staff! A lovely Spa, walled garden and beautifully managed gardens, and woodland with interesting specimens …we will definitely visit again. Even a bus stop nearby to nip into York!

First time visited and not disappointed. Room was in the courtyard and a good size and very comfortable. Stayed on a Tuesday and they have a different menu to later in the week. Food was very good with a good choice. Staff are friendly and helpful. The only slight ****** is that it takes nearly an hour after your booked dinner time to take you to the table. You are sat in the lounge with drinks and a menu until taken to your table. We went early as we wanted to have a drink before expecting to be in the dining room around the booked time. Don’t mind a short wait but nearly an hour is too long. Although this hotel is near a very busy duelled road you only hear the noise in the grounds not your in rooms or in the main hotel.

Lovely hotel. Stayed bed and breakfast.If you want a special treat would recommend. Staff can't do enough for you, beds lovely and comfortable. Had spa treatment which was lovely.. Some may say the evening meal is expensive but it is well worth it. Lovely breakfast.

Wonderful visit. We went for my Husbands birthday, we got a 40% discount offer with a free bottle of Fizz in the room which made it excellent value and a really nice experience. We stopped in one of the main house rooms which was very spacious and spotlessly clean. For dinner we had the tasting menu with matched wines which was all excellent, the dining room was lovely no piped music just lovely and quiet, breakfast was also very good and generous in quantity - again lovely and quiet which is what breakfast should be like. Well managed, with well trained, happy welcoming staff
