ผผู้เข้าพักWe stayed in an executive room on the eighth (of nine) floors in mid-July. The executive lounge was generally poorly stocked and food and drinks often unavailable with no staff around for over a couple of hours at a time. We were here for seven nights, so have a reasonably good time frame to judge. The swimming pool is surprisingly frigid in July, actually unpleasantly cold when there was any kind of breeze or cloud cover. The bathroom shower drainage was not ideal: every short shower resulted in puddles on the bathroom floor; long showers meant the whole floor was covered in standing water. Every time the neighbors used the spa or coffee machine, the noises were very loudly transmitted into our room. The balcony was very nice and the wicker furniture comfortable.

Our only complaint was that the rooms kind of felt like prison cells- cinder block walls, almost nowhere to hang anything, and no art, or color or anything to make the rooms feel “warm”. That said, I would stay here again.

ผผู้เข้าพักMixed Experience – Great Location, Poor Internet & Breakfast Setup The hotel is in a great location, and the room itself was clean, spacious, and comfortable. Facilities like the car park and lifts were well maintained and met expectations. However, as business travellers, the internet connection was a major letdown. The hotel appears to rely on a hotspot system, which was extremely unreliable—slow speeds and constant disconnections all weekend. Streaming services such as Netflix were unusable, and even basic browsing was frustrating. To make matters worse, the remote control had nearly dead batteries and worked intermittently. We were also disappointed with the rest and breakfast experience. After early starts each day, we were hoping for some quiet downtime in the afternoon, but this was hard to enjoy given the other issues. The weekend breakfast arrangement felt misleading. Instead of onsite breakfast, we received a $20 per person voucher to a nearby café. While the café was pleasant, it only opened at 7:30 am on weekends—not ideal when you're starting work at 6:30–7:00 am. And realistically, $20 doesn’t go far at most cafés these days, so it felt like a cost-cutting workaround rather than a genuine breakfast offering. On a positive note, Clara at reception on Saturday was professional and kind—she did her best to assist, though unfortunately there wasn’t much she could do. It seemed like her manager may have been present but avoided getting involved, which was disappointing given the situation.

The location is definitely one of the highlights—it’s conveniently situated within walking distance of the ferry terminal, which was perfect for my Great Barrier Reef outing. Additionally, having supermarkets nearby made it easy to pick up groceries and essentials, adding to the convenience. The room itself was well-equipped, especially for longer stays. It came with a full set of cooking utensils and kitchen facilities, which made it easy to prepare meals and feel at home. However, one drawback was the WiFi. The signal in the room was quite weak, which made it difficult to get online consistently. This was a bit frustrating, especially when I needed to do some research or planning for the next day’s activities. I often had to move around to find a better signal, which wasn’t ideal. Overall, Southern Cross Atrium Apartments offers great value with its prime location and self-contained rooms, but improving the WiFi would make the stay even better for travelers who need reliable internet access.

ผผู้เข้าพักI had a great stay at Gilligan’s! The room was spacious and clean, and I was even lucky enough to have the whole dorm to myself one night. I still managed to meet plenty of people, despite being a solo traveller, thanks to the social atmosphere and nightlife. It’s worth noting that the bar/club area didn’t really get busy until late in the evening (11:30pm onwards), and the hostel is pretty deserted during the day thanks to everyone being out on tours/experiences. My room was overlooking the pool/bar area, so did get noisy at night, but the hostel offers free earplugs at reception which did the trick. It was great to have an en-suite in the room, and the bathroom was in good condition. The location is ideal, right within the hub of Cairns City, however I didn’t feel particularly safe as a solo female traveller in the area at night, so it’s definitely important to be aware of that/travel in a group where possible. The on-site travel agency is helpful and approachable, and staying at the hostel means that you can get discounted drinks at the bar and free club entry before 11pm. I didn’t end up going to any of the weekday themed nights, but at the weekend the vibes downstairs were good. I would definitely recommend Gilligan’s to any young solo/group travellers who want to meet new people and experience Cairns’ party scene at a budget-friendly price!

TTam coupleVery gd location. Convenient walk to food and pier. Love the cosy breakfast on the verandah! A hotel of character! The only downside would be that some facilities inside the room are a bit old. Shower in our room is dripping. Noise at night could be loud!

PPHILLIP JAMESThe Mantra Hotel has outstanding location. It is directly in front of the Woolworths supermarket - the best option in central Cairns. It's also virtually opposite (the esplanade side)the lagoon public beachfront swimming pool. Finally it's just a 5 minute walk from Cairns Cruise Terminal, with outstanding day trips to Green Island, Fitzroy Island and the Reef. I booked a sea view room. When you enter the room, you don't see the ocean, but a building across the road. However, the view from the balcony was amazing. The balcony overlooks the main features of lagoon on the sea front. During the day it is great view - the lagoon pools and sea in the background. At night you cannot see the sea (as to be expected) but you have the amazing lagoon lights, which makes it very desirable and even romantic. Our room was at the end of block, which overlooks a shopping mall (no car noise) - looking right from the balcony is the lagoon view and looking left is a mountain view. However, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm the sun comes directly into the balcony area, which means it unusable until sun sets. Of course if you don't mind baking in the sun on the balcony, this is not really a concern. The room itself is pretty basic. The mini fridge of OK and TV has domestic channels only - no cable TV for BBC/CNN. The bathroom is of a good size. There is combined shower & bath. However, when using the shower, it can slightly flood this bathroom. A shower curtain may be desirable because the glass panel is not sufficient enough. At $225 per night this hotel was not cheap and you can better deals by coming in the off-season OR going bit further down the esplanade, and choosing another hotel. The Mantra does have its own pool and it is wonderfully heated, with normal deck chairs you would expect at 4 star hotel. However, the pool gets very little natural sunlight, because it of its location between 2 buildings. Overall, the hotel has amazing location, and it is still recommended, despite the shortcomings mentioned. My final note: When we checked in, I was impressed with the level of service provided by the receptionist. She had a very welcome attitude and a wonderful personality.
