Number Sixteen, Firmdale Hotels

Adorable hotel, great location, wonderful staff. I stayed in a single room and it was small and absolutely perfect. Enjoyed breakfast and tea in the restaurant and both were delicious. Great location near the South Kensington Underground stop. Front desk staff were all very helpful. Would definitely go back!

When we retired from London 7 years ago Number Sixteen absolutely became our VERY HAPPY Home-from-Home. Then our daughter bought a London house ... but, with another baby just arrived, we’re London-homeless again. But No, not really:- Back at Number Sixteen we’re better-than-faultlessly “back-home again”. Those 7 years later, and despite all that those 7 years has meant, ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING about Number Sixteen remains perfect, even better than 7 years ago if that’s possible. 1) Of course the whole place and “feel” is great, faultlessly and fun-illy designed and charmingly homey, much more like a friendly club than a hotel. So 11-out-of-10 for that: the food, my grand-daughter’s surprise and unasked-for little Birthday-cake, the garden, the coy-carp, the honesty-bar and all-else. But really it’s ... 2) The staff. ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE OF WHOM deserves at least 12-out-of-10, so let’s say an overall average 13 for all the staff but, in case that’s unlucky, let’s say 15-out-of-10. (What this really means, surely, is a REAL thumbs-up to the Kemps. Years ago I asked a staff-member in Quaglino’s how Conran got his staff there to be so nice? Was it immaculate staff-training or what was the secret? “No”, was the very surprising reply, “We’re all TERRIFIED of him”. If that’s how it’s done the Kemp’s must be terrifying QUITE BEYOND BELIEF! But I very-much-indeed suspect that’s perhaps not how they achieve such magic.) So Thank You yet-again Number Sixteen. Yours is a QUITE REMARKABLE achievement.

Went for dinner at the restaurant. Lovely calming environment both inside and out door spaces. The staff from reception and the restaurant staff were very good and very professional and knowledgeable in their conduct. The food was very delicious and of high standard from the starter, main, dessert and the cocktails. Will be back any time.

Room was very very very small. So small it was difficult to walk around the bed. Hard to write at desk because so close to bed. Could hear the neighboring guests through the wall. Even their was beautifully decorated it was absolutely not a functional room. Actually for the price it was an absurd experience.

Travelling alone, I feel safe here, and so well cared for. When I come to work in London for a couple of days this is home. I love the snug but perfectly formed single rooms, I love the dinner choices, I love the breakfast, but most of all I feel totally cared for by the staff, who remember personal details, who will do anything to help. Particular thanks to Roland the concierge for working so hard to find me at I. Thanks to all. I look forward already to my autumn trip.

We chose this hotel due to its star rating and the aesthetics of the building and accommodation. This was a special trip to celebrate a milestone birthday and we wanted a luxurious treat and the hotel delivered in almost every way. This being a high end mid sized boutique hotel in London's Knightsbridge, we interacted with most of the staff and the service was impeccable, courteous, professional and polite....top marks! The rooms we had (queen sized beds) were located in what would have been the attic space, so were compact but cozy, with a vaulted ceiling, beautifully decorated with comfortable beds and quality linen, the beds were changed daily. One slight negative was that the bathrooms were tiny! The door way was narrow and the door would only partially open due to a bath robe hung on the back and a door stop restricting access, you literally have to walk in side ways to enter which was a bit awkward, however I'm sure there are other rooms with larger bathrooms, so you should enquire about this when booking. There was a full size basin right next to the toilet and to sit at the toilet was awkward, you literally had your legs under the sink. Space is severely restricted and a smaller basin would have been a better design choice, however these bathrooms were nicely finished, spotlessly clean with quality products and fluffy towels. Our rooms were on the top (3rd) floor. There are multiple stair cases and a small lift for access, however the lift only goes as far as the 2nd floor and the 3rd floor is reached by a narrow steep stair case, so anyone with mobility issues may find this a struggle to navigate and should request a room on a lower floor. We had breakfast in the breakfast room, which was pleasantly decorated with a quirky edge (as are the public areas) the breakfast room looks out onto a small walled terrace garden, where weather permitting you can dine alfresco or enjoy a drink. Unfortunately the breakfast service was were we had a few issues. There appeared to be only one waiter on hand and the room was virtually full which resulted in very slow service. We ordered our food and when it eventually arrived, the food was cold, as were the plates and both our eggs had been over cooked and were hard, not what you'd expect at a 5 star hotel at this price point. We sent the plates back to be re-done and in due course they returned, the food was fresher/ warmer and the eggs were fine, but the plates were still stone cold! We decided to breakfast elsewhere after that experience. We noticed other guests were having the same issues with the slow service and getting very frustrated, which given the service elsewhere had been exemplary was very disappointing. To be fair to the hotel, when we were preparing to check out, they asked us for feedback on our stay and we mentioned the issues at breakfast, and when we finally checked out, they had removed the breakfast charges and also the charge for a couple of drinks we had had the
