Arrived Auroom on the 3rd of July 2022 as booked in by a tour company. Staff (Rahman) was warm and welcoming. We were shown to room 305 which though neat, was quite small and had a strong sewer smell emanating from the bathroom. We asked to see other rooms in a bid to primarily escape the stench and hopefully get a larger room, we were shown room 201 which was a decent size room, we opted to stay but were asked to pay an upgrade fee which we did. This room 201 too did have a nasty smell coming from the bathroom, the staff (lied) that the smell would go away as it was only there as a result of non usage over the past few days. Next day the smell was even worse. Whenever we complained the staff would feign ignorance of the situation and make you look stupid or suddenly won’t understand your English anymore. Over the next few days I established that it was a long standing issue with the entire property as sometime we would arrive back after a night out to be greeted by the most unpleasant stench right from the lobby through the elevator all the way to the room. The bathroom stank so strongly that using it was near hell. Also was the WiFi issue. The internet at the hotel was really bad and most times couldn’t load up Your Instagram without frustrating you. I spoke to the intern who was running the night shift and he did offer another ssid which was a little better but not of great quality either. I figured three were no access points in the rooms rather the access points are on the corridors with room walls obstructing the signal. It wasn’t all bad though, the hotel staff very very helpful, they helped with ironing clothes, once they brought up a wine opener in the middle of the night, the breakfast was basic but somewhat enjoyable and the house keeping was daily and refreshing. Also there is a lovely steakhouse right across the street called Rodizio that offered all you can eat grilled meat carved table side, they also had hookah which I found very refreshing. As I’ve earlier said, my 2 stars is only for the staff and their warm hospitality, the property in itself is not bad or dilapidated but the awful smell is enough to ruin your holiday from the first day, if I had booked myself in, there is no chance in the world that I would have spent more than a night at Auroom, when we considered the stress of reaching out to a uae based tour operator and the prospects of losing valuable tour days due to moving hotels, we decided to endure. Overall though the staff was nice, I found it quite distasteful that hotel management didn’t take any initiative towards recovery after incessant complains even thought they knew well that there was a problem with their property! The least they could have done was a free upgrade especially considering the fact that for a couple nights, we were the only guests at the hotel! Zero lack of ownership. I am a hospitality professional so I know how this should work. Also you’ll realize this hotel is conspicuously missing
