I stayed at Mercure Lanzhou Xiguan Zhengning Road Hotel for 3 days and 2 nights during my holiday, and it was a very pleasant experience.
The hotel was clean and well-maintained, which made the stay comfortable. The price was reasonable for the quality provided, offering good value for money. One highlight was the breakfast, which had a wide variety of choices, catering to different tastes.
Overall, it’s a great option for travelers looking for a clean, comfortable stay at a fair price. I would definitely consider staying here again.
I stayed one night at this recently renovated hotel in Zhangye and was very impressed. The property is elegant and modern, with stylish rooms that are clean, spacious, and comfortable.
The staff don’t speak English, but they were extremely helpful, friendly, and supportive, going out of their way to assist us.
Breakfast was good with plenty of fresh Chinese options, though the European selection (croissants, cakes, etc.) is quite limited.
Great value and well-located. I highly recommend it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
ผผู้เข้าพักI had an absolutely wonderful stay. This hotel is very accommodating to foreign travelers. They did their best to communicate with our family to make sure they were happy and comfortable. The rooms are amazing and full of amenities. They have a restaurant downstairs and serve a large delicious breakfast each morning. They also have a movie subscription service with a nice selection of English movies as well. Fully enjoyed my stay and will definitely be staying again in the future.
ผผู้ใช้ไม่ระบุชื่อOn baidu map, it says that from Zhangye railway station to the hotel is about 3 km but when actually navigating my way over while carrying a luggage, it was so much further than I'd expect because Zhnagye's road and traffic are quite chaotic. Many traffic lights aren't even in operation and there are quite a few (3 I think) t+junctions that pedestrian have to cross via the underpass. The cars doesn't quite obey the traffic lights, so be careful and cautious.
For the hotel itself, it's definitely one of my favorite overall, out of my 3 hotel stays during my trip. According to the receptionist I was offered a room upgrade, so thank you! There were also lots of free treats evertime I cleared it, so thank you again! Love especially the red dates yogurt, it's definitely a must try (although they were 2-3days after expiry). I even went out to the grocery to get more! Regarding the amenities, the air conditioner works but can't be controlled. Tried setting temp to 5 degree Celsius (lowest settings) and 30 degree celcius (highest setting), both doesn't work. It seems like it is fixed to room temp +/- a few degrees based on the temp outdoor. One of the day I had sunburn and wanted to cool off but due to how the temp was determined, I have no choice but to sweat it out. Other than that, the tap water here had very visible residue that you can tell that it isn't clear, so I really recommend not using it for drinking water boiled or not. Aon my last day, I wanted to try the bathtub but when I turned on the tap, I had a shock. The water that came out was brown, so I cancelled my initial plan of using it for relaxation 😕. There is also a humidifier provided and I am super grateful for that, however the water ran out on the 2nd day and I can't seem to fill it up correctly. The toilet bowl is also a smart toilet bowl, but I didn't realized it after closer inspection while trying to find how to flush. Lastly, I was so looking forward to the stars celling but it's kinda sad that you can't turn it on on its own without having the other lights turned on as well. Which honestly defeats the purpose of having a star gazing celling.
ผผู้เข้าพักWe arrived at the accommodation when it was raining heavily. There were a lot of leaks from the roof, when we entered the room we simply saw that the mattress was completely wet as a result of the leak. We then moved to another room where there was a leak in the bathroom as well as a lot of dirt, including in the toilet. In the meantime, the girl at the desk honored us with a very tasty local watermelon. She apologized for the situation and moved us to another room. The next room was a huge room, I think it was their suite. The room itself was really comfortable and large, but it was simply full of spiders and cobwebs. We decided that we would still stay in the room despite its poor maintenance. They cleaned the room for us a little, but it didn't help, but we had no more strength to complain. We cleaned it ourselves so that the stay would be reasonable. It should be noted that the place only has a solar water heater, so on cloudy and rainy days there will be no hot water as happened to us on the day of arrival. We asked the staff in the evening for tomatoes and onions and they happily gave us them free of charge. This is noteworthy and thank you for that. It should be noted that the Didi does not always arrive at the accommodation location, they offer a paid shuttle, which is convenient. On the second day we went out to the dunes at sunrise, the guy at the desk insisted that we would be cold and gave us some kind of sand socks. Only when we returned did we realize that it was actually a fee of 20 for both of us (just like on the website, and much more than supermarkets in the area). We did not understand why we were not told that it was a fee, plus it looked used and did not come in a plastic wrap. Apart from this incident, the staff was nice and helped us with the shuttle (for a fee). The breakfast was great, and they tried to help us according to our vegetarianism. We wanted to extend our stay after cleaning the room ourselves and it was decent and good, but the price was high for us, which is perfectly fine and reasonable on their part, and we decided to leave.

ผผู้ใช้ไม่ระบุชื่อThe best aspect of this stay was by far the owner. He was incredibly, incredibly helpful and friendly — from the moment I walked in the door he offered me a cup of tea, then provided tea and bread the next morning for breakfast, offered advice on what to see in the area, arranged a car to take me to Dalzong Lake, and finally even found me a spot on a local minibus going to my next destination. I couldn’t have done half the things I did during my stay in Xiahe without his advice and efforts on my behalf, so that alone made staying here fully worthwhile!
It’s worth mentioning that the guesthouse’s architecture is also absolutely beautiful, and everything looks quite new. It’s located down a quiet side alley off of one of the main commercial streets in town, which seems like the ideal placement.
On the accommodations: I stayed in one of the two tents erected on the second floor of the guesthouse. This was largely quite a good experience! The bed was very comfortable (with a heated pad), water and towels provided, etc. The tents are not in a closed-off area, but rather on the second floor/balcony area that also is used for sitting, serving tea, etc., so privacy is somewhat limited, but the whole guesthouse is relatively quiet anyway so it doesn’t feel like a public space. My only suggestions for improvement would be related to the bathroom: during my stay, the shared bathroom for the tents was a sort of temporary-style booth installed in the corner of the room with a toilet, sink, and showerhead. The bathroom was very clean and everything inside worked well, but its sliding door separated from the wall enough that there was always a substantial enough space on one side or the other that could be seen through (the door also didn’t lock and slid back and forth easily). The booth was also small enough that, realistically, I think it would be a bit of a challenge to actually use it to shower. If possible it might be worth looking into some simple fixes to improve these situations, but otherwise I have no complaints!
KKateI only speak English and the family were so patient in using translation apps. They were very kind in picking me up from the bus station (arranged by previous hotel) , had a fabulous hot shower and got a delicious dinner. Up early and with a lift to the caves had a lovely quiet visit. So kind, very much appreciated. Only slight difficulty for me was the firm bed, but I was able to make it work using a spare quilt as padding. Would stay again.
