Southern Xinjiang Group Tour (Unique Experience) - Day 11 Kashgar Gaotai Residential Area

Gaotai Residential Area is a Uyghur residential community located on a high loess cliff over 40 meters high and more than 800 meters long at the northeast end of the old city of Kashgar, Xinjiang. It has a history of 600 years and is a major landscape in Kashgar that showcases ancient Uyghur residential architecture and folk customs. As a traditional historical district with typical ancient Western Regions characteristics, the old city residences are mostly made of earth and wood, or brick and wood, and are important physical evidence for studying the living customs and architectural features of ethnic minorities. Nowadays, there are no longer any locals living in the old city, and the original houses have become dilapidated. In recent years, after renovation, they have all been turned into shops, but the buildings still retain the characteristics of the Western Regions, most of the merchants are locals, and the goods are mostly of Uyghur ethnic characteristics. The scenic area has preserved a section of the Gaotai residential ruins exhibition area, where visitors can still feel the vicissitudes of history.
