The Santiago Hotel presents itself as the premier option for budget-conscious travelers and sightseers whose main priority is location and convenience in Hiroshima. Situated right in the city center, the hotel offers outstanding value, allowing guests to stay in a clean, private space without the high cost typically associated with such a central location.
The primary strength of the Santiago Hotel is its genuinely unbeatable location. Guests can walk to major landmarks, including the Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome, in just a few minutes. This centrality extends to local life, with easy access to shopping areas and central dining options, such as the famous Okonomi-mura. Furthermore, the property itself is relatively new, having opened or been significantly renovated around 2020, ensuring a clean and modern environment.
Great hotel, great location to food, bars and cafes. Breakfast was included and well worth the visit, but busy around 9 am, go around 8 or closer to 930, but before last entry at 940. I will stay here again, and for longer next time.
OOsama BoussifI think it is unfair that this hotel has a low score on Trip.com. The reason I say this is because people were either looking for a “cheap hotel” in Hiroshima and were surprised by how far it is from Hiroshima Station and the city center, or they assumed the hotel was located on Miyajima Island.
Since there are only five reviews on Trip.com as I am writing this, I want to make clear who this hotel is suitable for and who it is not.
This hotel is perfect for people who want to stay as close as possible to the Miyajima ferry and spend just one night before heading to the island the next morning. You can reach the ferry either by walking (around 30 minutes) or by taking the local tram (around a 10–15 minute ride).
This hotel is not a good fit if you want to stay in Hiroshima and explore the city. It is not close to Hiroshima Station, the city center, or any sightseeing spots. The area around the hotel also offers nothing, there were no restaurants or convenience stores nearby, so take that into account.
However, if your plan is to stay one night and go to Miyajima Island as early as possible the next morning, and you are traveling with limited luggage (do not bring large suitcases or any heavy luggage), then this hotel is a good choice. We had our main luggage sent to our hotel next to Hiroshima Station and only carried a small 5 kg carry-on with clothes for the next day. The walk from the nearest metro station to the hotel was about 10–15 minutes, and it was not as difficult as some reviews made it sound. Just use Google Maps and you will be fine.
About the hotel itself, because of what we read, we expected nothing, but we were pleasantly surprised. The check-in process, done by machine, was instant and smooth with no issues at all. Sometimes I really wonder what people are doing when I read their experiences.
The room itself was more than fine. You have all the amenities you need, the room was spacious enough for two people with luggage, the bed was big enough for us, the hotel was clean, and overall it felt like a good hotel. I was even surprised that the hotel had a laundry room.
OOlegIt's my first time staying in ryokan with onsen and it was amazing since check in procedure full of warm relation and complete introduction to local habits till my first onsen visit.
Something special is dinner in traditional Japanese way and sleeping on futons.
Onsen with different baths and types of water is perfect after hard travel day and went us into the sleep in a seconds
Very small and remarkable city around the hotel easy to walk around and keep a lot of nice photos to remember
Super convinient location in 5 min to railroad station to Kobe and 30 min total to Shin-Kobe station.
Staff support us even when we need to send luggage to the next hotel in Kyoto.
Wish to visit it again
ผผู้เข้าพักAwazing Hotel really close to big Torii Gate and temple. About 3-5 minutes walk from major viewpoints.
The staff was welcomming and breakfast (was included) was delicious. Hugly recommend this hote
Little welcomming gift was in our room
They are a little bit far from the ferry port but they can arrange transfer
ผผู้เข้าพักStayed two nights at Onomichi Kokusai to do the Shiminami Kaido cycling route and really enjoyed my stay. The shuttle bus is a good perk (shoutout to Toshi the afternoon driver who was the best and so genuinely fun to chat with and helpful. Give him a raise!) but otherwise it’s a 20 min walk to the center of town where the station is. If you come in earlier in the day before check in time, keep in mind that there will not be shuttle buses running available. And when you do want to take a shuttle bus, you have to book via a site 15 mins prior to departure time which is exactly on time.
There’s also shuttle service to the public baths which I made use of and it’s cheaper than buying the voucher from the hotel than from the onsen directly.
No complaints about cleanliness and the room suites my needs. I’d definitely stay again if I do the cycling route again!
ผผู้เข้าพักWe have had a great stay at Onomichi Royal hotel. The hotel has clearly just been renovated - everything is super new and in a great state. We've had both dinner and breakfast at the restaurant in the hotel, which has been delicious. We used the hotel as the start and end point of our 2-day Shimanami Kaido cycling tour. It being only a 15-minute walk from the train station, the location was very practical for us. They were kind enough to store our luggage during our cycling tour. We were really impressed with the hospitality and quality of our stay.
ผผู้เข้าพักWe had a wonderful time enjoying the onsen bath, recliner lounge, ocean terrace and beautiful view from our room (Note: trip.com booking of lowest priced room with sea view is not correct as the room is located at the lowest level and you only see trees before the ocean. We need to pay extra to upgrade the room to a better view). There's a private onsen bath tub in the room too. They also provide free coffee, popsicle sticks and yukata at the lobby. Dinner and breakfast has a reasonable spread but most food (especially the fried ones) are pre-cooked and cold. So they don't taste as good. The location is high up the hills. It's not possible to get a bus and then climb up with heavy luggages. The best way is to take a taxi, so be prepared to pay the price.
ผผู้เข้าพักEasy walking to the hotel from Fukuyama station. The Castle near the station can be easily accessed by walking ( not too tough for me who has a knee issue). I could see Toyoko Inn at the top of the Castle ground. Also the cathedral.
