Hotel Alexandra Loen

Excellent hotel, with old world charm, outstanding staff and a dreamy dinner and bkfst buffet in terms of variety and quality of food. Location is great with beautiful views and gardens, and many facilities to enjoy. Room was only partially renovated, but spacious, comfortable and very clean. Proximity to Loen Sky Lift was a bonus.

Exceptionally good hotel My wife and I stayed here for one night on a small vacation in the Vestland region. The room was clean, the food (recommend the grill for dinner) and the pool were all fist class. Beautiful scenery (recommend to drive along the Loen lake), We will definitely come back.

A perfectly located hotel for exploring the fjords and mountains. The room was comfy and the swimming pools were a great addition to the experience. The selection in the buffet restaurant was excellent. The reception staff were not as welcoming as they might have been. The decor was a bit dated and the layout of the hotel was a bit confusing.

Disappointed in accommodations, restaurant, and services. Our family in two rooms were unable to sleep in the beds with slim foam pads atop cheap box springs. Spinning and aerobic classes represented in the website do not exist. Restaurant service is a confusion at all times. No concierge. When I reported smoking from the adjoining room and requested moving to another room, no offer made. When seeking a table on the outside deck, all tables were left with glasses and dishes from previous guests.Staff are young, inexperienced, and untrained. Not an experience of a luxury hotel: uncomfortable and overpriced.

One of the most beautiful locations on Earth! We stayed at the Hotel Alexandra before--and after--riding up the Loen Skylift. We sprung for rooms with a view and loved having spacious rooms with huge decks and views of the water and mountains (and the pools). The beds were so comfortable and the rooms were clean and quiet. We enjoyed the breakfast and dinner buffets. So many choices, including luxurious items like caviar. The wine list is almost overwhelming. The food and service was excellent. We also enjoyed the spa. Massages were fantastic. And the pools and saunas were nice. We went over the Easter holiday so there were lots of kids in the main pool area, so we sprung for the adult spa area (and that came free the next day with our spa treatments). The hotel is a short walk to the Skylift. We bought all day passes (made forgetting my purse at lunch much less painful. LOL). We rode up in the morning and later in the afternoon too. We ate lunch at the restaurant to enjoy the views. SOOO stunning--we watched base jumpers, clouds--aah! In the afternoon while the younger couple hiked through the snow for a couple of hours, my husband I sat in the bar overlooking the stunning scenery and enjoyed cocktails and a game of cribbage. Lovely, lovely, lovely. The hotel staff was friendly and we felt very welcome. One of the big highlights of our Norwegian roadtrip. The drive here is beautiful too! Aah.

We had an excellent stay in this hotel. The views were breathtaking, the check in was smooth, courteous staff, nice room with good amenities. We had dinner at Charlotte Restaurant on 1st floor and the buffet was simply out of this world! Lots of choices, very tasty food. I really enjoyed the lamb was was cooked superbly ( pls thank the chef who was manning the cooking station on 12th Oct dinner - his cooking was excellent). There was also a pianist that accompanied the diners - his music was lovely!

Our family of four (two adults and two boys ages 15 and 19) stayed at Hotel Alexandra for one night on August 16th. We stayed in two connecting superior double rooms with a balcony and fjord view on the 5th floor. The room was clean but a little dated and did not have air conditioning. We asked the reception for a fan which was of little assistance, but due to colder weather in the night, the temperature in the room did not bother us too much. Service at the restaurants was ok. Each room is assigned a specific table to have breakfast and dinner each day. Breakfast and dinner buffet was included in the room rate with a wide variety of hot and cold items. Our family was very satisfied with all the food choices. Coffee and tea was available at breakfast and dinner with no extra charge. The menu had many hot and cold items for every palette. The main purpose for us staying at the hotel was to climb the Loen Via Ferrata. The hotel is located right across the street from Loen Active, very convenient for people who have an early morning start for the Ferrata. We had booked a guided Ferrata tour and the location of the hotel served as a great convenience. The boys enjoyed the pool. We arrived in the evening on the 16th and did not witness the chaos and noise around the pool area. Parking and wifi at the hotel is free. Unfortunately we came late and left early, so we didn't get a chance to use the spa. For us the location of the hotel due to the guided Ferrata tour was a big plus. My husband and son were able to have a big breakfast at the hotel right before walking to Loen Active to start the guided Ferrata tour. I do not think the hotel is worth the $$$ it charges its guests but for us it worked out well due to the proximity of the activities we wanted to do in the area. Giving it 5 stars for the location, 3 stars for sleep quality and 4 stars for the variety of items at breakfast and dinner. If you are planning to stay at this hotel, do not expect 5 star luxury service ----think location, convenience, proximity to Stryn, Lovatnet Lake, Loen Skylift and all the other amazing activities Loen has to offer.

We stayed in two connecting Superior Double or Twin Room with Balcony and Fjord View rooms (with showers). The hotel is expensive and high-class. Unfortunately we came late and left early, so we didn't get a chance to enjoy the pool. Breakfast was excellent. The view from the rooms was great. The parking lot was quite busy. there's a grocery store a few minutes walk from the hotel. The one problem we had (thus the 4/5) was the laundry service (or lack of). Before our trip I discussed this issue twice with the hotel, and I understood that it's not a problem. However, when we came in the evening they said that it's already closed, and to come back in the morning. In the morning they said that they're busy, and to come back in the afternoon. Since we were there for only one night we had no clean laundry, since we depended on the hotel's laundry service. They need to clarify that this service isn't always available.

We visited as a couple, for a romantic weekend. We didnt expect so many families, and small children/kids. Especially in the pool area there are a lot of families playing around, so not that quiet and romantic. We had a good private time in the outdoor pools though. Also around dinner time (buffet) there were many people and buzz. Felt like an cruise ship, actually! Buffet both morning and evening was included in our stay, and was allrights. Plenty options, but quality could be better, especially of the fish / salmon. Morning coffee was very bad, a big "automat", not grinded fresh. The cafe buffet in the evening was the best part, a lot of options! Rooms were very, VERY old. Needs refurbishing. Beds were way to soft. Paint on walls cracking and carpet all over is not really modern. We had a room with the oldest TV ive seen in a hotel for 10 years of traveling, the picture quality was so bad! There were NO COFFEE / TEA facilities in the room, but a mini bar. Wer had a room next to elevator, VERY noisy, avoid that at all cost! Overall, not that "romantic" luxurious getaway we wanted (Go to Hotel Union in Geiranger for that!!!), and quite expensive, but we did get two meals also, so the overall experience is 3/5. I think this hotel was great 15 years ago, probably quite modern back then.
