Room was very attractive and well kept. Bed and pillows were comfortable. Housekeeping is complementary but upon request which is actually a very nice feature. Tiny refrigerator in the TV cabinet and no microwave, but we were allowed to use the one downstairs at Starbucks.
The Davenport has always provided a lovely respite. However, our last stay had us, as well as friends and family, reevaluating this choice for our next “staycation”. Initially there was simply a mix up (?) and we changed rooms. (We were told upon check-in that we were indeed able to stay in adjoining rooms with family. Then when taken to our room it was clearly not adjoining and we were told we could move but that our room had not yet been cleaned -this at 5:30 p.m.). Thought nothing of this. We waited and then moved. Walked to restaurant and had a great dinner. Finally when I went to go to sleep I discovered blood stained sheets. About 90 minutes later (now 11:00pm ish) someone knocked on the door and thrust a pile of bedding at me. I was so startled as we booked this stay as a break from everything including household chores. It is very odd to be tasked with changing your own sheets in a 4 star hotel.I asked what I was supposed to do with bloodied sheets and was told to throw them on the floor. I then changed the sheets and realized I had no pillowcases. It stands to reason that those had not been changed either. So once again a call to the front desk and while waiting for pillowcases my husband, exasperated as we wanted to sleep, went to the front desk to try and retrieve clean pillowcases. We stayed the weekend as planned with a pile of dirty sheets in the room. The spa was wonderful, the front desk people were friendly and responsive. The overall beauty of this historic hotel stands- though rooms were oddly empty (no place but the desk for room service). The rooms varied greatly. We were in three rooms during this visit and some were well appointed and others were not. Our room safe did not work-but I kind of gave up trying to fix things after the bedding incident. We paid the bill in full upon check out and left- likely never to return as CDA is close and provides a beautiful location for a break. This review makes me feel sad to write. Something is off here and I miss the old Davenport days.
We had a great stay. We were able to check in early for a $25 fee. Which was great. Disappointed that it costs $50 to use the pool during this time. That’s just my opinion, it is stated on the website. So we weren’t surprised. But just a huge charge for a pool. Our room did have a lot of river gnat, as the front desk called it and lady bugs. They sprayed our room but it didn’t help. Great views. Easy walk to multiple locations. Front desk was amazing.
The staff was very nice very helpful Pool area was great clean and nice The rooms were comfortable I actually had 2 good nights sleep Breakfast was good also We were lucky to be close to riverfront park Outside food was easily within walking distance
SSomeGrrrlFirst of all I want to give a huge shout out to Kimberly and I think Chloe (?) at the front desk who also help run the shuttles. I took a shuttle a few times and both of them were very helpful and had great conversation throughout the trips. The shuttle is one of my favorite perks of this hotel. Not only is it 24 hours but they will also take you to either nearby ******. The Dennys vouchers were nice, and they gave you plenty of options to choose from. I personally enjoyed it more then most breakfast buffets but my husband likes the buffets as he can go back for more so he missed that. The rooms were pretty clean. They also have an amazing espresso/hot drink machine in the lobby that was amazing. My only complaints about this place, was there was no hot tub (though several pictures still show one) and the pool was very cold and smelled of chlorine (more so then most other pools) so we really only enjoyed the pool once out of our week stay. Also once in the middle the the day, power had went out, and actually the locks in my room stopped working during that time (where anyone could come in). They said they were ran on batteries and that shouldnt have happened, but it did. I just stayed in the room the whole time and hoped it wasn't out for too long. I would definitely stay here again because the positive outweighed the negative and overall our stay was good.
BbluestangThis property should not be listed as it is totally unsafe for people to stay here. We have stayed here for the past 30 years and never has it been like it is now, we will never stay here again.. We checked in in the early evening and were put in room 608, shortly after we got into our room I could smell smoke and went looking for where it was coming from. I found a homeless person in the back stairs smoking his crack which we were also now exposed too, (we both felt nauseated after this exposure). In the parking lot I found two males carrying large boxes into the building. After checking our car I found one male doing something near the drivers door of an unlicenced SUV and the other inside the building lurking around the upper hallway. It seems some of the homeless live at this hotel. By then we had had enough and I told the front desk to get rid of the crack smoker and to cancel our reservation for the next night. We were kept up most of the night with transients coming and going from rooms around ours. There is no security in the buildings and anyone has access. The room itself was beyond dirty and run down. The bed had hair in it and the sheet was badly stained. The carpets are dirty and stained The curtains are broken and dirty. The window screen is also broken and unusable. Never again.
PPaula BI would give it less than one star if it let me. We made reservations the week before our trip. When we arrived at the property we were greeted by an employee who clearly hated her Job and could not care less. The property was FILITHY . Halls, rooms and showers full of mold. Cable did not work because as we were told by an employee ”the owner had not paid the bill in months”. When confronted with the issues the employee stated ”not my problem”. When asked for the owners contact information, we were told to contact customer service because they had none. Needless to say, we logged a complaint with customer service and at time of this review, have not heard from the owner.
