This is an an excellent hotel with easy access to Amsterdam. We travelled on the RNet bus from Schipol airport directly to the hotel. The railway station across the square from the hotel gives you 30 minute access into Amsterdam. Also great access to Haarlem a lovely town a mini version of Amsterdam without the crowds. The rooms are clean and modern. Staff very helpful and cheerful. We had a very relaxing 3 night stay here. The only negative the hot breakfast scrambled egg bacon and sausage needs to be kept hot it was cold and on cold plates not great. Good choice of continental foods breads waffles etc.
The hotel is located on the outskirts of Haarlem, a good 35-minute walk to the central square. There is very little around it in terms of shops or cafes or restaurants. So calling it ”Haarlem City” is a bit of a stretch! It is a 12-minute walk (through a nice residential area) to Bloemendaal train station, which makes it quite easy to get to Amsterdam. Haarlem's main train station is about a 25-minute walk from the hotel. The rooms are comfortable and good size. But (and this is a big but!) the hotel was built right next to a big sports centre and if your room faces north it will block your window as it is literally in front of it. This is a really poor design choice, it makes affected rooms feel claustrophobic. This is something the hotel should make clear at the time of booking. Parking in front of the hotel costs 7.5 Euros per night. Given its non-central location, you would expect parking to be free. So mixed feelings overall. Nice and spacious rooms, but the issues I mentioned above detract from the overall experience and value for money.
We stayed at this hotel as a large group, 28 people. On arrival we were met by friendly and helpful staff who checked us in without any issues. The bedrooms were modern clean and spacious. The facilities in the rooms were excellent with coffee machine, fridge and large TV. The buffet breakfast had a large selection of cooked breakfast items, cold meats and cheese, and pastries. The hotel was located near bus stops where you travel to Vandroot for the beach or Amsterdam for onward travel. There is also a large supermarket nearby, 5 min walk, which makes this an ideal place to stay to enjoy Haarlem. I will return with my family the next time.
My husband and I had a lovely 3 night stay here in a deluxe room on the 2nd floor. It is a small hotel and feels very personal. Haarlem is a pretty little town and is an easy base to spend time in Amsterdam but have a quieter place to come back to (that is still big enough to have plenty of dinner options). We were so glad we stayed in Haarlem to see things in Amsterdam. Took about 15 mins on the train to get to Amsterdam and the train station is just a couple of minutes walk from the hotel. Our room was large with a super comfortable bed and we never heard a sound from any other room or from outside! Incredibly peaceful. Reception staff were really friendly and helpful with suggestions on where to eat etc. The kitchen staff were excellent - lovely food and so keen to cook food fresh for us each day to add to what was already put out on the buffet. There is a lounge area for guests with complimentary biscuits, lollies, tea, coffee etc - and an honesty system to pay for alcohol and more substantial snacks - and a table tennis table, magazines, books, comfy chairs - and also a common outdoor space. We left on a Saturday afternoon to catch a train a Belguim and spent the morning at the markets. Great way to spend our last morning in Haarlem. Only negative is that there is no lift and the stairs are steep. If you have limited mobility you should mention this to the hotel before booking. There were rooms on the ground floor and i'm sure the staff could arrange for these rooms to be allocated to you or to help get your luggage upstairs (if you manage the stairs if you didn't need to get your luggage up). We loved our room up on the 2nd floor as it was so quiet but the stairs were steep so be aware of that if your mobility is limited.
I loved staying at Carlton Square! My room was great, enjoyed having the door to the balcony open in the mornings while I had my coffee. It was very clean, the bed was wonderful! I slept so good! The staff were very nice and friendly and helpful. Loved the water pitcher by the front desk and mints. The little things.
We stayed in a lovely room on the third floor overlooking neighbouring houses with the cathedral looming over these. The room was very satisfactory for us and very clean throughout though the towels were the thinnest we have used for a while. The front of house staff were always friendly and the hotel location is great. The round stairs inside the hotel with the brilliantly glorious painted ceiling is fabulous.
Had a good stay at the Niu Dairy which is a modern, nice hotel just right outside of the center of Haarlem. Check-in was efficient and friendly. Good quality bed and blinds that really keep out the light ensured a good night's sleep. Good shower, too. I did not have breakfast at the hotel so cannot comment on the spread and quality but considered it pricy at EUR 20,- ; especially in relation to the room price. Would gladly stay here again.
We had to walk trough the garden, this was a bit disappointed cause it was a bit dirty, like cigarettes…to go to the room. Also the stairs and to the room and the carpet was dirty. The hairdryer did nit work. Location great. In the middle of the old centre,
ผผู้เข้าพักSpent a few days in Haarlem recently and stayed at the Carillon hotel at the Grote Market. The location of the hotel is very good, as the market square is attractive and historically interesting. And it’s where most people in the area gather to socialise, so there are plenty of places to eat, drink and shop. However, the hotel itself is disappointing. There is no proper reception. To book in you have to call into the restaurant which adjoins it, where one of the bar staff will deal with the paper work and then hand you a bill for the tourist tax! While I realise that the hotel is not responsible for this charge and that it’s down to the local authority, I still resent giving in to blatant extortion. Our room was at the top of two flights of stairs, the steepest I have ever encountered. And although it was clean it was also a bit run down. The electrics were very `Heath Robinson’ and there were no facilities apart from a television that didn’t work. The beds were uncomfortable and walls thin enough to hear those in the next room stomping and crashing around till the early hours. The en-suit had clearly been designed by a lunatic. It was incredibly small. You couldn’t open the shower door fully as the wash basin was in the way and you would have to be a contortionist to use the toilet. Would we stay at the Carillon again? No.
