Olive Brook

We recently stayed at Olive Brook for 2 nights while on a birding trip of Southern India and were very impressed. The highlight was the owner and his wife that really looked after us and made us feel very special; one evening they even invited us into their kitchen to teach us how to make a local dish! The food overall was fantastic, and the tea and coffee superb. The rooms are large and comfortable, with good quality beds and linen. The surroundings are stunning, with beautiful gardens and special birds all around. It is important to note that Olive Brook does not have a liquor license so no alcohol is served.

Excellent place for Bird Watchers to stay as there is a bird bath in the garden that has lots of interesting visitors. The food provided here is first class and the rooms are comfortable. The WiFi was excellent and I would heartily recommend the place as long as you have transport as it is located in a valley about 5 Km from Munnar.

We loved our three night stay at Olive Brook. The garden is beautiful, and we loved watching the birds. Our room was roomy and comfortable, and we had a lovely outdoor area to sit and enjoy the birdlife. The dawn chorus was amazing! Food was superb, and the family who looked after us was delightful. Highly recommended as a homestay for people who want to avoid large touristy hotels.

A small restful guest house tucked away on the slopes of cardamom hills above Munnar. Great views. And if you're into birds, they're everywhere. The rooms are perfect, if you're not into antiseptic hotel style accommodation. The service is friendly and the dinners are the best we've eaten in the last three weeks. A pity the restaurant wasn't being used by more of the patrons because they certainly missed out. If we come back to Kerala, this place will certainly be on our list. Thank you.

Had a wonderful stay with my parents at Olive Brooks. Thomas and his staff were on their feet trying to help us out at each step. The garden is fantastic and attracts an array of eclectic birds including being awakened by the Malabar whistling thrush. The wooden cabin rooms have a really good view. Make sure you stay on the main Munnar road and not take Google for granted since the bison valley road cannot be driven on without a jeep or a 4x4.

I've given 4 stars to Olive Brook as it's a mixture of 5* and 3* facilities. The beautifully maintained gardens are full of flowers and have wonderful views. The gardens and friendliness / helpfulness of the staff were 5* However, the rooms are looking tired and in need of some maintenance. For example, our bathroom was missing several tiles, leaving electrical wires exposed, and one bedroom window could not shut. The WiFi is also very intermittent and generally meant going outside to get a signal. I'd score these factors 3*, hence an overall score of 4*

My recent stay at Olive Brook was an absolute nightmare, thanks to their unresponsive, stubborn, and downright rude staff. This hotel truly takes customer service to a whole new level of incompetence and indifference. Allow me to share the horrifying details of my experience. First and foremost, there was no phone available to contact the reception. Instead, the ***ager provided his WhatsApp number, which turned out to be utterly useless. Despite countless attempts to reach out for assistance, the ***ager never bothered to pick up the phone or reply to any of my messages. It's as if they intentionally want to isolate guests and leave them to fend for themselves. To add insult to injury, even for basic necessities like water, guests were required to trek all the way to the reception through the property. But here's the kicker—there were absolutely no lights ***** the path. It's baffling that a hotel would overlook such a fundamental part. Now, let's talk about the issue of food, which was a major problem at Olive Brook. Despite paying for our stay and breakfast, the staff refused to serve anything beyond their fixed timings (even if we want to pay and buy breakfast from them). We arrived late last night and woke up at 10 AM, only to be told that the kitchen is closed until lunchtime, which is a staggering three hours away. This is especially infuriating considering the hotel's secluded location. When guests are situated far away from any alternative dining options, the least the staff could do is provide basic sustenance. The lack of consideration and flexibility regarding meal service is indicative of Olive Brook's complete disregard for their guests' needs. It's as if they prioritize their own convenience over providing a satisfactory experience. On the second night, one of the interns (as he calls himself, while arguing with guests for hours about what is the protocol and how the world is supposed to work), refused to let us have packaged water bottles at 10 PM because as per him we were coming back late to the hotel, and in case we needed water, we should have called the hotel staff by 9 pm to inform the same. WATER!!!! In summary, Olive Brook is a hotel plagued by unresponsive, stubborn, and rude staff. The absence of a phone in the room, coupled with the ***ager's unwillingness to answer calls or reply to messages, creates an atmosphere of utter helplessness. Furthermore, the inflexible meal timings, despite the hotel's secluded location, leave guests feeling neglected and unsatisfied. You might like the property pictures, but the beautiful location won't make it better when you wouldn't have anything to eat after waking up. My wife had to request them that she has a medical condition and then only they gave us breakfast on one of the days. Please Save yourself the torment and avoid Olive Brook at all costs. Not worth going , cottages that were offered were cramped, area surrounding the cottages also not maintained properly. Food also not upto mark.overall, we did not like the stay and food however the staff were fine.

The hotel itself is nice with good view but the attitude of staff is very poor. If at all anyone wants to book I suggest don’t include breakfast as they don’t offer any choice. When highlighted this to the staff, he clearly said that they can’t prepare as per the choice or any other dietary requirements and everyone is supposed to follow the menu decided by them.
