Our hope and expectation of the comfort and charm of Porta Tosa was met at the wrought iron gate entry. This a beautifully preserved property where original, vintage furnishings and style are meshed perfectly with renovations to everything from functional updates to the little yet significant details that bring it into the 21st century. We felt secluded and relaxed in our own Porta Tosa world that is wonderfully exemplified by its outdoor patio area where we had breakfast the mornings we were there. The area is also lit nicely in the evenings for a for a quiet glass of wine, just a nice conversation, or simply some alone time after a day in Milan. Weather allowed us to breakfast outside. Our breakfast orders were taken from a small menu that includes a ham and cheese plate and any coffee drink you prefer, eggs cooked to order – all made and presented perfectly by our host Stefano. Stefano waits on everyone personally – courteous, polite and friendly. Fresh fruit was uniquely available in individual, small canning jars with lids, decoratively embossed. A selection of croissant and pastry was available, as well. A wonderful way to start our days in Milan! The patio area is smartly and effectively designed, giving you privacy from large plant borders, a fence with design elements either framed on or growing on it. There is also a small breakfast area indoors, should you prefer or if the weather demands it. It’s a unique design as you take steps up from the breakfast room to get onto the patio area outdoors. There are also stairs from the patio that go up into the first floor of Porta Tosa, bypassing the breakfast room if you wish. Our room was just as the pictures on their website show. It was quite large, high ceiling, large and comfortable bed, nice pillows. Large cabinet that held a lot of our luggage and clothing, as well as an ample desk for working, and WIFI was everywhere and no issues with connectivity. Blinds are automatic and on the outside of the windows! We had never seen that, and would love to have these at home. The bathroom was actually two rooms separated with a vintage door and frame, behind which was the toilet and bidet, walk-in shower and warming towel bars. Bathroom also had a window that could be opened to the street-side of our room. There was a mini-bar full of quality products, as well as a antique coffee table that held a full bottle of still water and two clean glasses, as well as coffee and tea products, all of which that was replenished daily. Coming in from a day or night in Milan, the lights turn on automatically in the hallways as you enter them. This as well as a simple process to enter the gate and building were wonderful touches. Every single part of our stay at Porta Tosa, every minute detail, from arriving to departing, exemplified its thoughtful focus on its guests ’convenience and comfort. Even in booking when our dates changed and I wanted to keep the same room, Stefano worked with
