Hotel location and access to the Tube were unmatched. Lobby, halls, and room were well-maintained - elegant without being overwrought. Being at the end of a right-angle dead-end street, it was quiet. Staff were just OK. Not unpleasant, but I don't think I saw a single smile. I don't necessarily expect US levels of obsequience, but an occasional smile or pleasantry would have been appreciated (especially when a large number of the clientele are Americans).
Of note is the addition of a considerable ( I believe it was £30 / night) "discretionary" service charge on the final bill. I had left a tip for the maid on the bed when I left, and felt that a total £210 for our stay was way too much. I decline the fee. I'm not sure what's worse - a discretionary service charge or the more common practice in the US of "resort fees".
Despite this, it was a very pleasant stay.
