The Fortina remains a great hotel despite losing some of it's facilities and individuality after re-development over the last 6 years. The location remains convenient for the waterfront, Sliema and local bars, restaurants and shops. The views if you have a tower room are still wonderful. The staff are all exceptional and extremely helpful and the rooms are well furnished. Accessibility for disabled people could be improved, but that's a fairly common issue in Malta generally. Overall though, a great place and base for a break in Malta.

Went here for my birthday holiday, the staff were friendly and helpful. Location was amazing and felt safe for a solo female traveller. Amenities were provided, with nice clean spacious room.

What a fantastic stay. Firstly the hotel has been renovated beautifully our superior room was great with everything you could need for a great stay. Secondly we stayed half board and both breakfast and dinner buffets were spot on. Great selection at both with regional and international cuisine. Third and finally the service levels were exceptional throughout the best I've ever experienced at a hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone whether it be the concierge, a waiter or room service all exceptional. Will 100% return to this hotel

My wife and I stayed here for 8 days at the end of April and the beginning of May. The staff were very friendly and accommodating when we arrived and took our luggage to our sea view room and explained how everything worked in the room. The room was very nice, and very modern. The views from our balcony of Valletta were outstanding as we were on the 7th floor and could see everywhere. The breakfast every morning had a lot of selection to satisfy anyone. Made to order eggs as well. We really liked the breakfast every morning! The hotel is located in an excellent location right on the water and in front of a big mall which was ideal to do some shopping. It is true that the outdoor pool is across the street and does not belong to the hotel, but you can use it with 24 hour notice. We didn't end up using the pool since we were so busy doing little excursions around Malta while there. I did notice that everyday the pool was not very busy, and there seemed to be many empty sunbeds during the day, so I don't know why you'd have to reserve one 24 hours before? My only complaint about the room, and a small complaint it is, is that the bathtub has a little glass window that folds out when taking a shower. However, the window doesn't even cover half the length of the bathtub, so when taking a shower a lot of water goes onto the bathroom floor, so be prepared with a couple of large towels to lay out, or you will have alot of water all over the floor! I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a beautiful place to stay in Malta in a great and convenient location!

Before we went I'd seen all the negative reviews about, the tunnel to the pool. It was dark, drab and went under a very busy road. We'll I'm pleased to say it's still a tunnel under the very busy road that leads to the gym, lido, spa and indoor pool, it's bright and a just a corridor really. Don't be put off. The lido (outdoor pool area, food is lovely ) is booked the day before to ensure your lounger, yes you will be pushed off to one side but weekdays if you insist you may get a bed on the nice side. Think it's important that people are aware, all the hotel facilities (except indoor pool) are open to the paying public, via a separate entrance. The hotel is beautiful, with some lovely staff who will all greet you with a smile and a happy hello. Personally we loved being greeted by Samantha every morning, great start to the day. Anthony will make you the best omelet in the world - made with love. Javier for his attention always on the look out to help. To name but a few. Rooms are spacious and very clean Wasn't too happy with the night turn down staff, we were on floor 5, ever night they turned up at 7pm when we were trying to dress for dinner! not convinced it's necessarily a required service. Maybe the delightful Alysia on reception could ask when checking in if its a service you require.

Excellent 5 star hotel. Very new & modern. Large rooms with all the 5 star trimmings (robes, slippers, tea & coffee facilities, turn down service etc) Staff friendly & attentive. But please if the hotel are reading this change the hair dryers! The location of them being inside a cupboard and fixed is awkward to do your hair....easily fixed by taking your own. Location of the hotel is great for exploring Malta & has a stunning view of Valletta. Large shopping centre behind the hotel with cafe & bars. Sea view & view of Valletta across the road from the hotel. Head down the road from the hotel and on one side you have the sea and marina the other side a flurry of bars / restaurants & shops. Lots of great places to eat and drink you will not go short. (Recommend Felice for a lovely sea view dinner) There is a great pub a stones throw from the hotel called The Queen Elizabeth, great staff, great food & cocktails - worth a visit. Spa / indoor pool & gym all very modern - not sole use of the hotel. I would have given this hotel 5 stars but the outdoor pool is not what we expected, it's not the hotels pool it is a beach club called Manta, whilst it's a lovely pool with great sun loungers, service and views of valleta the atmosphere is not relaxing and chilled it is a beach club, loud music with heavy base from 12pm onwards and it gets VERY busy! Especially at weekends. We had one day with a great experience (it was a Monday ) with a nice lounger with the sea/Valletta views, whilst the music was still an issue we tolerated but when we visited on a Friday the whole club was booked out and all the hotel guests were put in a low level side corner of the beach club with limited pick of loungers. In saying all of this Manta has great staff and service the drinks and food menu are incredible I would recommend eating there, brunch menu is superb! If a pool and sunbathing in a chilled environment is not a main part of your trip then this hotel and location I would recommend.
