This was the 2nd time I have stayed at the Chelmsford Travelodge. They have 2 accessible rooms and I have stayed in both of them now (they are identicle). As a wheelchair user (I am a paraplegic) the rooms are very spacious, important for being in a wheelchair. The bathroom is also nice and spacious and suitable for a commode (toilet/shower wheelchair), having a roll-in shower. The toilet did not suit my style of commode, but I was able to use a bucket to do my business in. Overall, the hotel is very suitable for wheelchair users. The staff are very friendly and the bar and cafe have a nice range of food and drinks to choose from.

It's been many years since I last ate and drank at The Ship, when I worked in Chelmsford. Fancying a change from our usual eaterie I suggested it to my one-time colleague and we went there. The place was busy, warm with a lively atmosphere but we found a table. I had the pan-fried skate wing, which arrived breadcrumbed and served with new potatoes and French beans. My chum had the sausage and mash. To follow it was chocolate fudge cake and banana cake respectively, accompanied by ice cream. We drank the reliable St. Austell Brewery Tribute Ale and reminisced until it was time to leave for our respective trains. Recommended.
Our apartment we had booked in Chelmsford turned out to be a disaster and not clean, we could not stay there so we had to find last minute accommodation for our 4 nights in Chelmsford for a family wedding. We ended up booking this little gem of a hotel and were not disappointed. The staff, ALL the staff were so lovely and bent over backwards to assist. The room was clean and tidy and enough room to move around even with a single fold up bed put in for our 5 year old. This hotel is quite old and there is a lot of noise that travels through out the rooms because of the thin walls but it did not matter as we were so comfortable there. The rooms was changed and cleaned daily even the towels were changed with out us asking. The restaurant is actually some of the best food we had through the UK. Who ever is the chef really cares about the food that goes out. Even the kids menu was fab, actual real food grilled salmon and vege, was a wonderful change from chicken nuggets! If we are ever back in Chelmsford we would stay here again. Don't be put off from the older exterior as this has the feel of a good country, family run hotel, where the staff really care about their guests. They made a stressful situation stress free. Thank you!
The Muder Mystery Night with Miss Janet Mapletree and supporting cast was absolutely superb. We got together a table of eight family and friends who all enjoyed the evening tremendously. The marquee at Pontlands Park was beautifully decorated, even had candles alight in the chandelier to create the perfect atmosphere. The three course meal commencing with a Crayfish salad was brilliant, the chicken in a celeriac sauce was delicious and the trio of desserts perfect. All washed down with excellent wines. Thanks Pontlands for a superb evening. We will all be back.
