Althea Traditional Hotel

Good location in old town, amazing view of the island! Our room (Point of view suite) would need a renovation but almost comfortable. Sometimes we heard noise in late evening from the Astrofegia restaurant downstairs. Bathroom would need a mirror above the washbasin and not behind. The stuff is very helpful and friendly, Mrs Olga very kind. Highly recommended but if returning I'd choose for sure other modern bedroom.

Great location, Nicely decorated spacious rooms, fabulous views, average service and definitely overpriced. You pay for the location and the rooms and not the service. It is more like renting an apar**ent rather than staying in a hotel.

Stayed 3 nights in a suite with a small private pool - view from the suite was breathtaking. Pool water was rather chilly but I guess welcome during the height of the summer. Suite was comfortable but outside terrace only attracted the morning sunshine so limited the opportunity to sit in the sun next to the private pool. Breakfast was good and varied but serving area/ room really small to accommodate guests in the morning breakfast rush! Katerina the host was helpful with restaurant suggestions. Overall a great stay with immediate access to the old town and restaurants. Recommended

We loved waking up to such an amazing view out to sea every morning. The room was comfortable and breakfast was served outside with more lovely views of the old town. It is a perfect and very convenient location for exploring the old town - just a few minutes walk away.

Superb hotel! Amazing people offering amazing service. We had some leftovers in the room’s fridge which they offered to heat up in the oven for us and cut us some tomatoes as well as making the table for us to have an amazing quick lunch! We called last minute and they prepared 2 rooms for us. The rooms are very clean with cute, tasteful decoration.Super views of the sea in both rooms, and a huge lovely terrace in the sunset room. Great vibes definitely need to return🫶🙏

A little oasis in the centre of the old town. Beautifully decorated, breakfast excellent. Staff very helpful. We will definitely be back. Very good location next to an excellent taverna and within walking distance of many others

Our room and balcony were perfect for relaxing whilst watching the fabulous sunset and looking out over the old town. The hosts were super friendly and Olga gave us lots of useful information for local restaurants and travel around the island. The restaurant next door (Astrofegia) is in a beautiful setting and the food and wine lovely. In the old town we sat out in 'hedgehog square' and had a wine/beer literally watching a large hedgehog snuffling around! We walked down to Megalos beach through the olive groves a few times and ate in the restaurant down there in between swimming in the crystal clear water of the Mediterranean. Walking back up was a slower affair and we sat by the plunge pool to cool off on arrival. The walk down to Patitiri is about 30 minutes and we had a beer or two in the taverna looking out over the port. I have to say, Althea is the best boutique hotel we have stayed in and would love to go back when we have retired in the year or two - Althea and Alonissos are stuff of dreams.

When booking we were unsure if being over 3km away from the port was the best idea, as this was a lot further than our other hotels on the other islands. However we found this to not be a problem at all. This property is right on the edge of the old-town, right next to where the taxis drop people off. The hotel also arranged a taxi for us directly from the port to the hotel when we arrived. We found taxi prices varied between 10 and 12 Euro to go between the taxi and the old town. Being in the old town was actually very useful for us as we found that this had a better selection of restaurants than the port based on our tastes. We booked a room with a hydromassage pool, although overall we didn't actually end up using the pool that much as it was best in the morning when the sun was shining down on it. In the afternoons we used a matching pool in the main area of the hotel. If you're up early enough to catch a sun-rise in one of these rooms I would fully recommend it - the views out the window are spectacular. The room itself was of high quality, with little touches such as plug in mosquito repellent being provided, and towels especially for the hydro pool. Any issues we had were very quickly resolved by staff, I think the only thing we lacked was a kettle, but it wasn't hard to ask the cafe for boiling water which was much quicker than waiting for a kettle to boil anyway. Breakfast was included and was a selection of pastries and breads, cheeses and meats, and also items made to request such as yoghurt with fruit. It was the best breakfast we had at all the places we stayed in our time in Greece. The person serving our breakfast each morning got to know our preferences and on the final two mornings our selection was much more catered to what we had been eating. It was a little thing, but really felt like they were taking notice of how best to meet our needs. The hotel itself was very quiet from what we could tell, but this suited as fine, and it wasn't surprising given that we were there in mid-September which is end of season. We asked for a late checkout and this was given to us free of charge. We had a slight issue with the ferry leaving the island being cancelled without our knowledge (this seems to be very common!), however the taxi driver that the property arranged to take us back down to the port was quick to inform us of this fact and managed to get us onto the final ferry off the island with just seconds to spare. The property sent us a very nice message to apologise that were weren't aware of the cancellation, which was very nice of them as it shows they truly care about the experience of their customers. Overall this was an excellent stay on the island of Alonissos. I would very likely stay here again if I came back to the island.
