Mount Athos is an Orthodox holy mountain, belonging to a special theocratic autonomous republic in Greece, is politically an autonomous state in Greece. The 20 Orthodox monasteries on the Mount Athos peninsula are a world cultural heritage. Although Mount Athos is connected to land, it is only accessible by ferry. Visitors to Mount Athos are limited and must be approved first. Orthodox believers can give priority to approval and only adult males are allowed to enter Mount Athos. To avoid interference, women are severely forbidden from entering Mount Athos, and even female livestock (except cats and egg hens). After successful application for entry, travelers must follow the monastery's schedule, pray with the monks, eat, etc. Travelers can get free food on the mountain, but they are all light.
