National Tile Museum

The National Tile Museum is one of the most important museums in Lisbon, mainly displaying many exquisite ornate tiles in Portugal from the 15th century to the present. There are more than 270 pieces of tile paintings in the collection, each of which is a classic, the most remarkable of which is a 36-meter-high Lisbon tile painting. The interior decoration of the museum still retains the style of the 17th century monastery, and it also displays a special product of Portugal - ceramic tiles. Painted tiles have been around since the Moorish era. At that time, they were only used for important buildings and were a symbol of wealth, power and status. Later, they became popular among the people, and their styles and crafts became diverse. The stories drawn on the tiles are mostly related to religion and history, and of course there are other patterns such as landscapes, which can be enjoyed in this museum. In addition to the collection of semi-industrial and industrial tiles produced in the Lisbon district, the museum also collects artistic floor tiles from France, Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom at the beginning of the 20th century. In the Ceramic Museum, you can not only visit the ceramic collections, but also experience the production process of ceramics. In addition, there is an 18th-century-style restaurant here.
