A Panoramic Journey Through History
Location :
Zuri Hill Observation Deck
ズリ山展望広場
Misonocho, Akabira, Hokkaido 079-1144, Japan
Facilities:
Public toilets
Spacious parking area
Nestled behind Akabira Railway Station in Hokkaido, the Zuri Hill Observation Deck, also known as ズリ山展望広場, offers a unique blend of historical significance and breathtaking views. This site, originally a spoil heap from the old Akama Coalmine, has been transformed into a compelling monument that attracts visitors from all over Japan.
The journey to the observation deck begins with a climb up 777 meticulously hewn steps. Each step, inscribed with the Sino-Japanese character for fire (火), commemorates the coal mining heritage of the region. The steps themselves are a tribute to the laborious history of the Akama Coalmine, which operated from 1938 to 1973 and was one of the largest coal mines in Akabira. The spoil heap, known locally as "zuri-yama," was formed from the debris sorted and discarded during coal extraction. This debris was transported to the top of the heap by trolley cars pulled by powerful winches, a testament to the industrial prowess of the time.
The observation deck not only offers historical insights but also boasts modern conveniences. Visitors can enjoy the comfort of public toilets and a spacious parking area, making the site accessible and family-friendly. As you ascend the 777 steps, the panoramic views unfold, revealing the built-up areas of Akabira and the majestic Ashibetsu and Tokachi mountains in the distance. This scenic vantage point provides a serene escape, blending natural beauty with a rich industrial past.
In 1991, the site gained additional charm when people from across Japan responded overwhelmingly to a call to have their nameplates affixed to the balusters along the steps. This personal touch adds a sense of community and continuity, connecting past and present visitors in a shared appreciation of this historic landmark.
The Zuri Hill Observation Deck is more than just a viewpoint; it is a poignant reminder of the region's coal mining legacy and a symbol of transformation and resilience. Whether you're a history enthusiast or a nature lover, this site offers a deeply enriching experience.

Tokyo - Vibrant City
Tokyo, Japan is a vibrant city, I spent just 4 days there. I went to the very Japanese samurai restaurant (Samurai Restaurant) and sumo restaurant and felt the charm of traditional Japanese culture. I also went to the oldest playground in Japan and the very famous Mikado arcade game center, playing a lot of classic nostalgic games. I also went to see a funny talk show in English, which was very fun.
It is worth mentioning that the accommodation reservation for this trip was completed on Trip.com, and they refunded me a part of the reservation fee because I found that the price purchased from other websites was cheaper. The minimum price guarantee for Trip.com was very easy to use.
Overall, this trip to Tokyo, Japan, was very enjoyable, we felt the charm of traditional Japanese culture and modernity, it is highly recommended.

Osaka trip 2024
My heart is set on going to Japan 🥹. This year, 2024, I'm definitely going. Researching so many places, I still won't be able to visit them all.
Starting with Osaka Castle, let's pay it a visit. Walk around to get the feel, walk until you're tired. It all ends here, no need to waste time looking for photo spots. Once you get inside and see the full view of the castle, you should turn left. There's a pond, and there are stone seats arranged like stairs, which should be near the Japanese garden 本丸日本庭園.
Moving on, the old favorite, Kuromon Market, is a must-visit again. Eat a little at each shop, it'll cost quite a few baht, but the variety is good.
For the year 2024, I would recommend:
1. For cafe lovers, the Nakazaki area is a must. Just pinpoint on the map and you'll find plenty of cute shops. The area itself is very charming. I recommend taking a leisurely stroll.
2. For shoppers:
- Orange Street has many high-end and high-street brands, and it wasn't too crowded when I visited.
- America Mura / Shinsaibashi are next to each other, perfect for walking around. This area is a must-visit for everyone, with everything from second-hand clothes and shoes to popular brands and food.
- The department stores in the Umeda area are numerous. Shopping in the department stores is great because they offer a 5% discount voucher for tourists on top of the tax-free benefit, which can be used on the next receipt. It's really worth it, especially for shoes, cosmetics, counter brands, and perfumes.
1.
Address - Kuramon Market
Highlights - variety of fresh seafood
Rating - 8.5/10
2.
Address - Nakazakicho
Highlights - small area with cuteness overload. For cafe hopping. Search “nakazakicho cafe” and you will see there are so many cute cafes and they have delicious cakes and coffee.
Rating - 10/10
3.
Address - Umeda
Highlights - Umeda Sky Building/ department store

#familytrips2024
7 artscafe is a small cafe located in Naka-kU, Yokohama. I absolutely loved the aesthetic and chill vibe here! And they played Bruno Mars songs the whole time!!!
We went there for lunch. I and my friend had VEGETARIAN PESTO AVOCADO MELT SANDWICH. Their set meals are served with a clear soup and a choice of either Iced/Hot coffee, Iced oolong tea or a choice of Ronnefeldt Hot Teas. I had mint and fresh tea. The sandwich was good, but I loved the sides, specially the coconut and quinoa porridge!
I had sakura smoothie too after a while. That was the best sakura smoothie I had so far!
Highly recommend 💯

Small World Tokyo Disneyland 🥳
One of my favorite rides at Tokyo Disneyland is "It's a Small World." This is an amazing place not only for kids but also for adults! It is the perfect ride when the weather is not so great outside because the queue is indoors and looks fabulous! The line moves fast and there are some adorable photo opportunities while you wait. Once you hop on your boat, you are taken on a voyage around the world.
Venture into Europe, Asia, Africa, Central America, and the islands of the South Pacific on the happiest cruise in Japan!
I bought my ticket in advance here on trip.com.
Tip: Spot your favorite disney characters during your voyage! Have fun 😊

Enjoying Hagi's Castle Town from a Boat in Yamaguchi Prefecture
Hagi in Yamaguchi Prefecture is a tourist destination that features the Hagi Castle Town, which was registered as a World Cultural Heritage site in 2015, and the Horiuchi Important Traditional Building Group Conservation Area. While it is certainly enjoyable to stroll around with a map in hand, I took a ride on the "Hagi Hakkei Sightseeing Boat" to enjoy Hagi from the water. The approximately 40-minute boat ride allows you to spend time in the pleasant breeze. The boatman's stories were also fun.
Special courses are also available in spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
There was a free parking lot available during the boat ride.

【Nagasaki Prefecture】Incredibly Valuable Guest Perks at Hotel Europe.
I visited Hotel Europe, the most luxurious hotel at Huis Ten Bosch. As it is positioned as the top-tier hotel, the accommodation fee is indeed a bit pricier compared to other hotels around Huis Ten Bosch. However, I personally think it's a highly recommended hotel that could be considered high cost-performance if you take advantage of the early booking discounts and the too-good-to-be-true guest perks.
Luxurious spaces will enrich your stay at Huis Ten Bosch even more!
Recommended Point 1
☆ Free shuttle bus service between Nagasaki Airport and Hotel Europe!!
For those coming from outside the prefecture, the common means of transportation between "Nagasaki Airport" and "Huis Ten Bosch" are either airport buses or high-speed boats. The bus costs 1250 yen one way (1500 yen from 6.1.2024), and the high-speed boat costs 2200 yen one way, but if you stay at Hotel Europe, you can use it for free! (Advance web reservation required)
Recommended Point 2
☆ If you purchase an admission ticket (either a 1-Day Passport or an After 3 Passport) on the day of arrival, you will receive a 1-Day Passport for each day of your stay!!
For a 2-day, 1-night stay, you would need to pay for two days' worth of passports if staying at an external hotel, but with Hotel Europe, you only need one, which is an incredible deal. For a 3-day, 2-night stay, you can enjoy three days with just one day's ticket. Remember to present your passport at the front desk every day, so don't lose it!!
(Reference price: 1-Day Passport Adult 7400 yen)
Recommended Point 3
☆ Check-in elegantly with the exclusive check-in cruiser for Hotel Europe guests!!
Similar to Huis Ten Bosch's popular attraction "Canal Cruiser," you will cruise around the park by boat. The "Canal Cruiser" is very popular and often has waiting times, but the check-in cruiser is relatively empty as it's exclusive to guests staying at Hotel Europe. If there's a queue for the Canal Cruiser, be sure to ask the staff.
Recommended Point 4
☆ Receive a ticket for the "SS Seat" at the Huis Ten Bosch Opera Theater's "Opera Company Performance"!! (Limited time event)
Only at Hotel Europe, you can receive a complimentary ticket for the SS Seat, which allows you to experience a full-scale live opera up close. Make sure to check in early and check the performance times!
Recommended Point 5
☆ You can enter the park one hour before it opens, so you can enjoy the less crowded park!
If you have a ticket for the day of your stay, you will receive a passport for the next day, which allows you to enjoy the park before opening. Attractions and shops are still closed, but since Huis Ten Bosch is beautiful with flowers and buildings, please take plenty of photos in the quiet morning and enjoy!
There are many more valuable perks, so please check the hotel's website for details!

Volcano Views: Nature's Resilience Unveiled
Information :
Usu Volcano Observatory
Crater observation deck
Minami-gairinzan Lookout
Duration : 60 - 120 minutes out and back
Operating hours: 8:15am ~ 5:45pm
The Usu Volcano Observatory, located in the picturesque region of Hokkaido, Japan, offers a fascinating and educational experience for all visitors. A trip to the crater observation deck and the Minami-gairinzan Lookout is not only a feast for the eyes but also a journey through the dynamic history of the Usu volcano.
A round trip to these remarkable viewpoints typically takes between 60 to 120 minutes, allowing ample time to absorb the breathtaking scenery and the rich geological history. The observatory operates daily from 8:15 AM to 5:45 PM, providing plenty of opportunity to plan your visit.
Usu Volcano has a captivating history of eruptions dating back to the 17th century. It has erupted approximately every 20 to 60 years, with its fiery activity occurring not just at the summit but also on the mountain slopes, such as the significant eruption in 2000 on the northwestern slope. After the major formation event of "O-Usu" in 1853, the summit experienced a period of dormancy for 124 years, until volcanic activity resumed between 1977 and 1982. This period of volcanic activity dramatically altered the landscape, leading to the formation of "Shinzan" (New Mountain), which rose approximately 180 meters, splitting the mountain into three distinct sections.
The journey to the crater observation deck offers a unique opportunity to witness the ongoing recovery of the forest ecosystem, slowly reclaiming the land that was once devastated by volcanic eruptions. The lookout points provide panoramic views of the crater and the surrounding lush green forests, which are gradually regenerating, painting a vivid picture of nature's resilience and the ever-changing earth.
Visiting the Usu Volcano Observatory is a profound experience that combines natural beauty, historical intrigue, and geological wonder. Whether you are a nature enthusiast, a history buff, or simply looking for a serene escape, this destination promises an unforgettable adventure.
