This was definitlely my worst hotel experience ever. I have to stay at conferences frequently, and I will be avoiding Hilton and any Hilton brands whenever possible. To be fair to this hotel, I'll start with the one positive: the line staff, for the most part, was very friendly. That leads me to believe it is more of a management problem (that extends beyond this one hotel), and - goodness - the problems run deep! So, here are my criticisms: (1) The room was disgusting. There was dust all over the table and furniture, and a mold-like smell everywhere. The floor had a blood-like stain in several spots going from the tv to the bathroom, as you can see in the pictures. (2) I paid extra for the executive floor, and - believe me - you're wasting your money if you decide to do the same. I don't believe there actually is any concierge service (when I tried, I was told I would be contacted later, and I never was). The executive lounge was hardly ever open (even during the advertised hours), and when it was it, was hardly ever stocked. It apparently doubled as the employee break room, because that was all I saw in there on the two occasions my card actually allowed me access to the room. (3) The heating and air unit was broken. When I arrived, the entire 9th floor was 80 degrees. When I tried using adjusting the AC unit, I saw why. The regulator appears to be broken. If you turn on ”heat,” it heats up regardless of the room temperature and continues to heat up regardless. Same for the cool setting. So you either get 80-plus degrees or 65-minus degrees. It was impossible to get the room at a comfortable temperature. (4) I only received one towel for an entire 4-night stay, and couldn't understand why. (5) The parking situation is terrible. If you plan to ever leave in your car to go out into the town, it will cost a pretty penny because every single time you leave, you're paying $11. (6) I ran into a woman who had an even worse experience than mine in the elevator. She had been assigned a room that was already booked, and walked into the room and encountered another woman on the toilet! (7) MOST IMPORTANTLY, I was with a crew that had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I had called early and spoken to someone (via the 1-800 number), and was given assurances about an accomodation. I asked at the front desk, and was told the manager would contact me about it. I never was. A once-in-a-lifetime experience was ruined, and I don't think I can forgive Hilton brands for that.
Wonderful experience with Hotel du Pont for our wedding weekend. We had many friends and family stay here for our wedding at Winterthur. The girls got ready in the Winterthur suite which was lovely- we had great food catered by the hotel and the room was beautiful. Our personal suite we stayed in was massive and clean. The only frustrating thing was the thermostat wasn’t cooperating- it was often very hot in our room and we couldn’t get it to cool down. Great stay overall!!
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Wilmington Downtown Courtyard by Marriott and I am thrilled to share my exceptional experience. Located conveniently in the heart of downtown, the hotel's prime location made it the perfect destination for a gathering with friends, family, or for business purposes. A standout highlight of my stay was the exceptional service provided by Samantha at the Bistro Bar. Her attentive, friendly demeanor and expert mixology skills made our time at the bar truly unforgettable. Samantha's warm hospitality added a personal touch that enhanced our overall experience. From the elegant accommodations to the impeccable amenities, Wilmington Downtown Courtyard by Marriott exceeded all expectations. The seamless blend of luxury and comfort created an inviting atmosphere, making it a delightful stay for everyone in our group. I wholeheartedly recommend Wilmington Downtown Courtyard by Marriott to anyone looking for a remarkable downtown retreat. Thank you for an unforgettable experience. I look forward to my next visit!
The hotel is exceptional. Friendly, clean and free breakfast! We had a wonderful stay. The only disappointment/surprise was the parking. When we arrived we were told parking was on the street (parking meters) or valet. Valet was $34 for the evening. I thought that that was a bit steep but had no other option as who wants to park on the street in front of a meter.
Great location, friendly staff and clean rooms. I was a little nervous when I saw this was the hotel my group was booking at, you can tell from the photos it is a little outdated. But in the end was a better stay than I had expected. First the bad. The room decor is bright and furniture is old. If you are uncomfortable with stains on furniture this might not be the place for you. I did have a small issue with the smell by the bathroom, and the wet floor that caused it, but I was only in for one night so it was easy to work around. A few of the lamp plugs did not work, a lot of them really, which caused me to think the blow dryer didn’t work. I called the front desk and replacement was brought up right away. I then realized it was just most of the outlets that were faulty. Now the good…. everything was very clean, the amenities that mattered were new, and every interaction I had with staff was friendly. We arrived late, but we’re greeted and checked in quickly. I had asked for a room with a balcony which was honored. I was happily surprised by how big my room was, and liked the setup better than most. The desk chair and desk were actually great for working in the morning. The mattress was comfortable, which is important to me. I like a medium/softer bed for reference. There was nice new patio furniture on the large balcony. I like that they still have some rooms with balconies, I like fresh air and access to a functional door or window which is rare at hotels anymore. The top item that impressed the heck out of me though, was Donna at the front desk. She went above and beyond twice for me in my very short stay. I need coffee in the morning. Usually at hotels if I wake too early and the restaurant isn’t open I will grab a cold Starbucks can from the market, but it’s not the same. I went down at 5:30 and the restaurant had not opened yet. I started to walk towards the market, and confirmed with Donna that they opened at 6. She asked me what I needed and I told her. She asked what size and if I needed anything else, and ran back to the kitchen. She could have easily said “yup, they open at 6 see you then” but instead she went ahead and helped me out. The coffee was great! It really made a difference in my day. I truly appreciated that kindness. Also when my blow dryer did it work as mentioned above it was Donna that brought one up, and was friendly the whole time. Thank you Donna! Overall the hotel itself is nice, but rooms could use some updating. You can tell they have replaced some of the things that matter most, like the desk chairs and mattresses. I was impressed by the service, and friendly atmosphere.
We had an excellent stay here! We had to relocate when we lost power and this hotel really exceeded our expectations. I’m a clean freak and I was very pleased with the cleanliness of the hotel. The bed was extremely comfortable. The accommodations were great. The staff was incredibly nice. The breakfast was better than I expected! It was truly a great experience and I think we will return when we get our floors refinished. The suite didn’t feel cramped with a toddler, hubby, and a dog. It turned a stressful week into a mini vacation. Didn’t get a chance to enjoy the pool but maybe next time!
I stayed at this hotel when it was the Inn of Wilmington a few times. The company I worked for used it as one its hotel partners for employees when staying in Wilmington. We commonly referred to the Inn of Wilmington as “Hotel Hell”. It got so bad we collectively refused to stay there. It was old, dirty and the breakfast was just awful. Fast forward to this stay. The hotel was converted into a HIE. The hotel was clean for the most part, the staff was friendly and the breakfast was equivalent to what is offered at all HIEs. We were pleasantly surprised that such a transformation occurred knowing the past history at Hotel Hell. I applaud IHG for salvaging this hotel. My only recommendations would be that perhaps hotter water could be delivered to the upper floors. There was some uncleaned areas in the bathroom but not horrible. Attention to detail stuff but this did not impact our stay. Good job HIE.
