Friendly staff - good food. Grim accommodation- all done on the cheap - room 5 was very shabby. Would not recommend. Could be a decent property in the right hands. Marginally clean - mould in the bedroom and bathroom. The area is amazing for walking. Good bus service and general stores. There are other places to stay.

The staff was very nice, but the hotel is well worn around the edges and could benefit from sprucing up. The location of our room was nice, looking out on the town square, but the room itself had seen better days. I'm not sure where some of the pictures on website came from but our room and the room we had breakfast in looked nothing like the pictures on TripAdvisor.

Me and my partner have just come back from such a lovely weekend staying here. We had a two course meal on the first night and breakfast both mornings, the food was delicious. They have a massive beer garden which is a sun trap! The room was very cosy and had an amazing sunset from our bedroom window. The staff were 10/10 they made you feel so welcome and was super friendly, we didn't want to leave. We really can't wait to come back. Thank you for such a great stay and for a great night last night in the bar 🍻

This hotel is clean and satisfactory. It is centrally located in a beautiful village in a stunning part of the Peak District near a great river walk (the Dove). However: 1) our room was small and uninviting, with a tiny TV far too far up on the wall to be of any use. 2) The breakfast was stunningly unoriginal: only 1 variety of cereal (Corn Flakes), no fruit or yoghurt at all, very poor selection of breads. 3) The Residents Lounge was pretty seedy. o it was OK but definitely not worth the £150 we were charged for B&B

This traditional building is a bit tired inside but I get the impression it’s a work in progress under this management. It’s a great location for walks. The staff here are very friendly. Good music in bar area with good drinks and fire place. The food was great, especially dinner. Breakfast was a decent spread. Room was comfortable. We’ll stay again.

Really enjoyed our overnight stay. The staff were really friendly. We had an evening meal. Large portion and well cooked. The bed was comfortable so we had a good night's sleep. The village is a good place to tour from. Would definately stay again

Popped in with friends for some food after a walk to Milldale and back. Very welcoming as we entered and we had a lovely table in the restaurant. Food was excellent and quickly served. The vegan pie was tremendous. Beer was excellent too. All reasonably priced. Look forward to returning.

Had a lovely Sunday roast on Easter Sunday evening. Pork was beautifully tender. Service was very friendly at the end of what was clearly a busy day. Understand is under new management. We decided to ignore some of the recent negative reviews and give it a chance - very glad we did.

We stayed here in 2021 on a little babymoon and loved it so much that we returned for another little babymoon with baby number 2 in 2024. Lovely hotel, very clean and comfortable. The bar/restaurant is really lovely and very well priced.
