South Sands Hotel

2nd time stay at this hotel and 2nd time we have been given a room outside the main hotel, in a glorified shed... It had a separate WC, but without any wash basin?? The mattress was old and squeaky. Woken early by other residents using their shower, making all the pipes knock. Wash basin in the 'shower' room draining very slowly.. The saving grace was the breakfast, which was lovely!

We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay at South Sands Hotel. We were warmly welcomed by the reception staff and offered a complimentary drink on arrival. The hotel is beautifully decorated with a modern, nautical theme throughout. Breakfast, lunch and evening meals were all delicious and served by friendly staff. Our room was very comfortable and clean with a lovely, hot shower. The hotel is in a fantastic position, literally just opposite the long beach of Sand Bay. There is a woodland walk that takes you into Weston-Super-Mare in about 45 minutes or, if you prefer, a regular bus service runs from just down the road. We really can not say anything bad about this hotel and would love to return again.

Lovely hotel and friendly staff. Perfect view from our room and everything was great in the room. The food (evening meal and breakfast) was great. Only stayed for one night, but there was nothing at all we were unhappy with. Highly recommend. We will be back!

We had a meal on Saturday night was very over priced. For £14.95 for a portion of seafood lasagne and a watercress salad. I feel is very over priced. The lasagne very lacking in its sea food. It appeared to be just sheets of lasagne and tomato paste. I had chicken supreme with 3/4 stems of broccoli and a very small portion of dauphinoise potato - not worth the £14.95. The puddings were small portions too and were £7. each bit of a rip off if you ask me. On the positive the staff were amazing and very friendly.

We have just eaten in the dining room. Probably the most up to date place weve eaten on this trip. There is a weird set up where you can sit outside to have a drink, but you go in a side door to the bar, no linkage between the two. My meal was good however the steak sandwich had by my partner was described as 'just cold roast beef on probably the last two pieces of bread in England'. Nothing on the sandwich eg salad or chips and at €11 was the most ordinary food we've ordered. We've travelled to a lot of countries and rarely would we need to leave a review like this. Is it that we are tourists? Staff are here, happy enough, though not overly attentive. Music is from the 70s and 80s. Bathrooms and other facilities are very good.

Arrived and were given a nice welcome cocktail. The hotel has recently been refurbished and looks fresh and is complimented by very friendly staff. The bedroom was large with a very comfy super king bed. Double aspect windows but the 2 that opened jammed when trying to be shut and needed a mighty slam to close. The black out curtains did their job.. The free wifi works very well. There is a safe and small fridge. However the bathroom gives the impression of neglect. Bath tub plug would not lift up as the mechanism was jammed and the turn knob was loose. The shower is hand held and has no clip to hold it higher than the taps. There is a TV in the bathroom but it does not work. The bath panel is damaged. The toilet holder was loose and the door handle looked very bodged with paint on it. It really was a shame that the bathroom let this place down and to be told the room we had was the honeymoon suite, room 17, I would have been even more upset if I was on honeymoon and had booked the room. £180 is very poor value for this room. How this room was allowed to be sold with these problems is dreadful. None of the problems highlighted could not have been sorted without too much work. Until more care is taken I would not recommend booking room17, the honeymoon suite.

We booked thru *********** as a stop over on the way to Cornwall and made a rookie mistake and didn't check TripAdvisor. Couple of bad reviews but once we got there it was a different story, this place is incredible, nice reception welcome and a free drink on arrival. The guys in the bar were friendly and liked a quick chat the room had an amazing view overlook Cardiff on the other side of the bay. The bedroom is a nice size, modern and very clean. Bathroom had a great shower and fairly big for the room size. We had dinner there and that was amazing and the staff are knowledgeable about the food which is always a plus. We had scallops for starters and lobster/fish n chips for main. It was sweltering that day (27deg) so a nice evening drink outside on the terrace was fab. The room was hot overnight but soon cooled down and had to get on bed to warm up lol. Breakfast is great with a very nice full English and again amazing staff. So would stay here again and we will.

We booked an overnight stay here en route to Cornwall. A tricky place to find. We had an annexe room, just away from the main building. A nice, well appointed room with decent TV and a massive bed. The bathroom on the other hand was a little tired and very small with a very low wash basin and tight shower cubicle. Beautiful fluffy towels though. Great onsite restaurant for dinner and full English breakfast. Not good for a prolonger stay in my opinion as the local "beach" is very disappointing.

Had a room booked on the Sunday night checked the check in times which stated 2200 was the latest. Arrived at 2045 went to check in and the place looked deserted all locked up. Called the hotel number it was answer machine left a message but no one called back. Waited around till 2100 then called the booking agent who tried the hotel and agreed it was an answering machine. The agent said they would email and hotel had 30 mins to reply. So I had to wait around for another 30 minutes. When I called the agent to see if the hotel had replied they said no and would have to cancel my booking as I couldn’t get into the hotel all you need after a 5hour drive. It took the agent until 2330 to find me other accommodation. All I can say if you have booked here check to make sure it’s got someone there like it says on their website. Not a great start thankfully it agent was still open and couldn’t do enough to find me another hotel. I won’t be booking this one again.
