Daku Resort

There must be a reason we keep returning to Daku, year after year. The thrill of the aircraft on final approach over Savusavu is matched by the smiling faces of welcome as we are greeted back into the family by the same staff who have been there for years. In a way, the unchanged surroundings and the serenity of the view from our 'home' for two weeks settles on us a happy calm that we look forward to and are never disappointed. The food was excellent, service terrific, and the pervading atmosphere of being in the 'real' Fiji with genuine people, experiencing their life and their values was a delight - as ever. Thank you Daku family for recharging our batteries and showing us the simple values of life are still there for our appreciation and enjoyment.

There are so many things to like about Daku Resort that I will limit my self to the top three. First, the people who welcome you. They are not only universally friendly and helpful - they also embody a true sense of ‘authenticity’. An especially delightful part of the package is provided by the hosts, JJ and Delia (whom I acknowledge to be friends). They show a genuine interest in their guests and for those who are looking for some intellectual stimulation (in between relaxing) - they are the most wonderful conversationalists. Second, is the location. Savusavu is off the main tourist track - but lacks nothing in terms of the experiences on offer. A breathtaking tropical reef is just a short boat ride away. There is even an organic farm growing cacao pods right next door - producing small quantities of the most delicious chocolate. Or you can just stay put and relax while looking over the bay (have I just revealed too much about my preferences?!). Third, and finally, is the quality of what is on offer. There is nothing ‘flash’ - and ‘rustic charm’ might not be to the taste of everyone. However, everything just ‘works’. The food is consistently tasty and wholesome (cooked - and served - with great care). There is a rhythm to the days that encourages one to meet and mix with other people (although one can easily avoid others if that is preferred). And one can just relax and go with a distinctively Fijian ‘flow’. If you want ‘charm’ rather than ‘polish’, ‘depth’ rather than ‘glitter’ and ‘care’ rather than ‘concern’, then this is a place for you.

We recently had a group of 11 stay with John and the team at Daku. We had an absolutely splendid stay and would certainly recommend this resort. Listed as a self rated 3 star resort it certainly had an appropriate room tariff for this level of accommodation, but the staff and service was far beyond many of the 5 star resorts I have stayed at in the past. The team could not do enough to help us and were incredibly giving of their time and nothing seemed too much to ask. We look forward to staying there again when we next visit Savusavu

I am just back from a fabulous week at Daku Resort, doing one of their Paradise Courses. We sang all morning and swam, snorkelled, visited villages, had massages or simply relaxed poolside in the afternoons. JJ, Delia and their wonderful staff were welcoming and very friendly.

You are immediately made to feel at home at Daku Resort. The food is fabulous, the staff friendly and helpful. Unfortunately it rained for 4 days out of 5 (not seasonal) but we didn’t miss out on any of the attractions in the area. The yoga platform has a magnificent view and perfect for early morning meditation. My bed was very comfortable and the Bure was large and spacious.

We came as a group Yoga retreat, and the constant rain provided a lot of downtime which was very nice. The yoga room has a the most beautiful view over the bay and the gardens. Would love to see the place with the sun out one day . Take plenty of bug repellent keep your expectations in check and enjoy the experience.

We had a lovely week at Daku resort. The villa was spacious with a large deck and beautiful view of Savusavu Bay. We made good use of the plunge pool to cool off and greatly appreciated the bure aircondithioning. A yoga retreat was happening while we were there and we were able to join the classes. The elevated view of the bay and island from the yoga shala is absolutely stunning and a wonderful space for practicing yoga. The staff were very friendly and helpful and no request was too much trouble. Staff made it easy to book excursions and Fijian experiences. We especially loved the day trip to visit a Fijian village and swim under a stunning waterfall. The owners John and Delia were great hosts and we really enjoyed their company. Food was delicious and it was nice to mix and chat with other guest in the resort dining area. We would highly recommend a holiday to Daku Resort.

I loved my stay at Daku Resort! my ocean front bure was charming, and the bed was very comfortable. My daughter and I were part of a group of aspiring artists taking a Paradise Course at Daku in which we went to scenic locations to paint on-site in the mornings, had excursions of interest in the afternoon, and ample free time to enjoy the resort and go into town for shopping. Our meals were included, and we enjoyed excellent food family style with other guests and local residents, where the conversations were lively and entertaining. The friendly staff did a lovely job of taking care of us. Daku Resort is your chance to experience the real Fiji in comfort.

My husband and I were in Savusavu for the day, very anxious about trying to find a last minute snorkel trip. We were referred to Daku and were not disappointed! The trip out to the two snorkel locations was wonderful, the captain and guide were great. All in all a fabulous time. We found the staff at the resort amazingly helpful and wonderful to deal with. We hope to return to Savusavu again one day and would certainly stay at Daku. Great convenient location as well.
