We loved that this hotel was historic. The room was exceptionally clean! We were thrilled there was a bar and dining room right on the premises. Lots of atmosphere.

Even though it’s about out in the middle of nowhere, this hotel does live up to being called an oasis in the middle of the desert. Super comfortable, clean hotel room, carpet was soft and the bathroom was clean and nicely finished. Huge king bed. Friday night had live music till 10, and the restaurant and lounge was nice.
There’s a pretty active UP train track right across the street, but it’s just apart of the Texas small town charm.

Sylvia was our waitress in the restaurant, very informative about the town of Van Horn, TX. Food was tasty and had large portions. You could share, I believe they do charge a plate split fee.
Would highly recommend to other travelers. History of hotel is interesting. Only a couple hours from Big Bend National Park which unfortunately is the least visited NP.

Excellent place to stay! Stayed on our way from Carlsbad Caverns to Big Bend. It was a great mid-way spot to stop. Super friendly staff. Cute, clean rooms. Ate at the restaurant and it was good food for a reasonable price. Would certainly stay there again.

Stayed 1 night. The hotel is clean and quaint. The restaurant and bar are open late and have a good menu and great service. The bar is an added thrill. The only drawback is that the rooms are tiny and the bathroom is even tinier. Not much room for luggage or toiletries in the bathroo..

What a treasure! This place is a gem! Already planning return stop. Pristine hotel from the 1930s. Like stepping back in time with all the current comforts. Every staff member I met was amazing. Don’t stay at a chain hotel. The El Capitan is a treat not to be missed.
