The Somerville

There is a reason that this establishment is number 1 in Torquay! The location is perfect, on the quieter side of Torquay yet still close to all facilities, with their own car park. To ensure requirements are met for arrival Peter keeps in touch via email and phone. On arrival we were given a warm reception and information needed for our stay, including recommendations of local hospitality. Peter took us to our room and explained all we needed to know. Helen bakes cakes daily and I was told they were delicious, on this occassion I resisted temptation. The Garden Suite was perfect, it has all you need to enjoy a luxurious stay. The separate lounge area within the suite is a bonus, especially as it had french doors to the patio, garden and carpark. Within the room you will find a fridge with bottled water and fresh milk, an assortment of teas, coffees, hot chocolate and filter coffee pouch to use with the provided cafetiere. The bedroom has everything you would need, including a fan, ironing board and iron, heater, hairdryer to name a few items. The bed, pillows and duvet are amazing. The decor and design of all rooms are spot on. Now, the bathroom is perfect....from the rainfall shower, to the aesthetic, the complimentary The White Company toiletries, the luxury robes, fluffy towels and the super touch light mirror, I could go on! The breakfast that Helen cooks to order is spectacular! There are so many options of both hot and cold items. Superb! Talking of superb, at breakfast you will meet Paul! Paul is funny, witty, helpful and a real gem to add to this establishment. It was lovely to chat to other guests over breakfast, especially as we were from different sides of the country and the World. New Years Eve, Peter and Helen invited us to complimentary drinks to celebrate with them and all guests before heading out to celebrate the New Year. This was an added bonus to the evening and Peter is most definitely an engaging host. There are so many complimentary things to say about the boutique and Helen, Peter and Paul, it was definitely a stay I won't forget and it made my birthday celebrations memorable. Stayed for three nights. Peter is a great host, meeting us on arrival to welcome us in. Two beautiful rooms / a bedroom and small lounge, with a recently refurbished and very stylist shower room. Tasteful decor with a large comfortable bed and good quality bed linen. All very clean. Beautifully prepared breakfast, with plenty of fresh fruit, cereals plus a good choice of cooked too. The Somerville is just a 10 minute walk down to the sea front. Torquay museum is a 5 minute walk. An excellent place to visit. The Hole in the Wall is a lovely old pub serving great food and only 7 minute walk down the hill. I can highly recommend a stay at the Somerville!

Amazing hosts , information on local events, places to go. Amazing food. Home made cake , cookies every day for guests . Home made granola, sauces etc and fab breakfast every morning . Room gorgeous with very comfy bed . So many added touches , no wonder it’s 5 🌟. Will definitely be back . Trev and Jackie Foxwell

We had an excellent two night stay at this luxuriously furnished and decorated hotel with a fabulous breakfast! Our hosts were extremely friendly and helpful, clearly very proud of Torquay and signposted us to the best attractions as well.

What a brilliant find in Torquay with parking as well. Peter and Helen are brilliant hosts and the breakfast and homemade cake were delicious. Cosy and comfy room and a gorgeous bathroom with proper toiletries we will definitely return. Thank you for a lovely couple of days.

Me and my partner had an amazing time at this b&b the hosts Peter & H are so lovely! there hospitality is outstanding! And they couldn’t have done more for us! The hotel is beautiful our room was so nice and modern and they supplied everything we could have needed in the room. The bed was 1010 comfort quality! We look forward to Coming back again in the future.

I was greeted on arrival by the owners, very relaxed and friendly. The room was fabulous, with just about everything you could need. Close enough to the harbour in Torquay to walk in past a selection of good restaurants but also with easy to access free parking to the rear of the hotel. Breakfast was virtually anything you wanted, and beautifully presented. Helen made the most wonderful cake for guests to enjoy each afternoon, as an added bonus ! To sum up my stay and how the hotel is run, I would say ‘the answer is yes we can, now what is the question??’ Highly recommend.

Fantastic place - best accommodation in Torquay. Peter & Helen are excellent hosts. Rooms are so stunning, comfortable & spotless. Food fantastic. Highly recommend. Easily the nicest place to stay in the Torquay area. We always stay here - we visit twice a year.

Stayed at the Somerville for a couple of days over Easter Could not fault it lovely breakfast. Peter Helen and Paul went out of their way to ensure we had a great time. Both Peter and Helen recommended places to go either to eat drink or cycle and all their recommendations were top notch.
