Posada Amazonas

This hotel is the perfect blend of comfort and hospitality, with the natural experience. The hotel is reached by a hour’s boat ride from Puerto Maldonado, expertly organized and accomplished. Most staff are members of the local Esa Ejja community. The food is good and plentiful. Hot water is always available and lovely bedding features mosquito nets. There is of course no air conditioning (one side wall is open in rach room) and the electricity is off for a few hours at night affecting overhead fans, so I was glad to have brought a small battery powered fan for sleeping. But the best of the experience is the wildlife. Our expert guide Oscar Mishaja introduced us to nearly 100 bird species, along with caimans, river otters, poison dart frogs and capybara. A trip of a lifetime.

Excellent experience overall— really kind and welcoming staff at every point of the journey. All transfers were well organized and smooth. Excellent and educational excursions all around the rainforest. Delicious food for every meal. We had wonderful guides- Freet and Alvaro. Enjoyed our time here!

Overall the experience was excellent. Very well designed hotel. Rooms were large and comfortable. The pickup drop off and the wild life tours were well organised. We saw some wildlife like 3 types of monkeys, capybara, otter family, caiman, barking dear and some beautiful birds and butterflies. The guides were ok. One of our guides was good but the 2nd guide was very disinterested. But our biggest disappoin**ent was the food. Although the quality of food was good, the quantities at the buffet were limited and if you didn’t go early some of the dishes were over and they wouldn’t refill the dishes. They just said sorry it’s over. It wasn’t a good feeling when you are in a remote location and there is no ala carte to run out of food. The massage was also ok.

Traveled with brother, son and father looking for an Amazon adventure and we were not disappointed. We saw so many things: macaws, monkeys, capybara, giant otters, tree frogs and more! The mosquitos were REAL, get some Peruvian repellant with the good stuff don’t bring it from home.

We loved our stay here and we were sad to leave, but we genuinely enjoyed every moment of it. The meals were amazing, and there was such variety which we appreciated. The environment was also wonderful we were glad the group was distributed throughout the place, and not back to back in rooms. It allowed for privacy, as the rooms were exposed to nature and little critters.

Interesting bus and river boat rides bring you to Posada Amazonas on the Tambopata River. It’s managed by the Ese Eja indigenous community. Luis M., our guide, helped us observe birds and learn about plants and other animals. A canopy tower, clay lick and oxbow lake are highlights. All personnel are extremely kind and researchers give short lectures in the evening. The food is delicious! Excellent mosquito netting in rooms!

The immersion experience was great. Be prepared though to feel hot and full of bug spray much of the time. Wear hiking pants. Not Lulu leggings (too hot). The guides are great and you can do as much or as little as you want. We saw a lot of animals.

Posadas Amazonas is an eco-friendly lodge that makes a huge commi**ent to preserving the rainforest for generations to come. The food served (breakfast, lunch and dinner) is fresh and delicious! The staff is extremely knowledgeable and caring. A special shoutout to the lodge manager Cesar for ensuring that we had packed meals for the onward journey when we were delayed by a rain storm. The main attractions apart from the abundant wildlife are the canopy tower and nearby Oxbow lake. The canopy tower gives a great 360 degree view of the rainforest and we were fortunate to see monkeys and macaws from the vantage point. At the Oxbow lake we saw river otters and Caimans and we were able to catch a piranha fish as well. Overall, Posada Amazonas is a great lodge owned and operated by the native communities located in the amazing Amazon rainforest.

My high school girlfriends and I just finished an amazing experience in the Peruvian rainforest of Tambopata! We stayed at two ecolodges and the first one was Posada Amazonas, run by the native community of Infierno, their lodge is super cozy and the food is delicious and plentiful. We loved all the excursions! We climbed a 138 feet tall canopy tower with a bird´s-eye view of the forest, we enjoyed the time with macaws flying around us and a family of howlers monking around :) We actually saw five species of monkeys throughout the trails and near the lodge (from our rooms!). We went to an oxbow lake and saw giant river otters and a black caiman! Many birds, lovely plants, wild fruits, butterflies and funky fungi! We had a lot of fun and even some of us did mountain biking and others took massages in a beautiful setting. Our guide Lucy was so knowledgeable and great spotting animals in the forest. We wore long sleeves for the mosquitoes, but they weren´t too bad, but it was hot so make sure you take your water bottle with you at all times and a cap or hat when in the lake.
