The Morangie Hotel is a dump. We got bumped here after the Mansfield Castle had been closed because it had no heating but this seems to common practice, there’s been a range of reasons for many months. Every expense has been spared to ensure profits before quality but quality prices are charged in an ego inflated ideal of what providing hotel service is about. At over £200 per night this place was dreadful value compare to some of the places we've stayed for between £90-£100 per night. We refused the first bedroom we were offered because the bed was awful, the mattress was crap, probably very old. We accepted the second room against my better judgement but it was late and we needed a place to stay. Once we got to bed, the worn sleeping positions you had to fit to just told you it was a tired, old mattress. That wasn't even the biggest problem, the old linoleum on the floor in the bathroom was stained, the side of the bath was damaged and sitting out of place. The toilet seat had been replaced with the cheapest seat from a DIY shop and then there was the shower. The shower unit is approximately 50 years old, I know this because I had the exact same model in my parents house when I was growing up in the 70's but the pressure was too insulting to be described as a shower. By chance, the owner happened to be dominating the bar at the expense of his customers, nevertheless I thought it appropriate to raise my concerns with him directly but he was such a bombastic, arrogant character, he didn't entertain my comments, overriding the conversation to tell me how hard business was and how difficult things were for him, in running the hotel. He did later, buy my partner and I a drink, presumably as a peace offering but this only confirmed his complete lack of understanding of the basics of providing hotel services. An awful experience.
