Such a great stay. In a lovely building and not far from the centre of Swanage. Woke up with great views of the sea and a lovely fried breakfast. Had something that catered for everyone with vegan sausages as well. Great friendly staff and overall a good experience. I loved the lounge with wood panelling as it was very relaxing for the evening with games you can help yourself to. Thanks for such a great stay Swanage YHA!

Basic bunk bed accommodation, but that is exactly what you expect and pay for. Very pleasant staff. Venue felt safe and secure. Lounge area to sit quietly in. Good wifi. Well appointed communal kitchen area for self-catering. Remember to bring your own towels and toiletries (although you can hire towels at reception). Room was clean. Lovely views. Some parts look a little tired and rough around the edges (eg bathroom area) but for the price it is very difficult to moan as it is a budget, value accommodation and that is the reason I chose it. If I am back in the area, will happily come back.

I booked this hostel and released that the date was wrong. I called them and explained and was greeted by a rude man (I later found out he was the manager). He actively tried NOT to help me. He told me I couldn't get my money back as it was a non-refundable booking, he refused to change the date (this was tuesday morning for a friday booking in peak season - I expect they could have rented the room if that had tried but he was not prepared to even try). I called head office and they explained the policy - I think this is an antiquated policy. On top of that however, my biggest issue was with the rude and hostile comments and communication style by the manager, Andy. I recommend you don't stay here and that Andy gets a new role.

An elegant Victorian Villa with a wood paneled lounge lots of comfy chairs to relax or enjoy conversations with other guests. Very good members kitchen. My room was good too . Overall a great stay friendly helpful staff too. Very near to everything locally . Budgens supermarket very good . Loved the 50 Purbeck Breezer bus service from Bournemouth to Swanage great service other services available to to explore area . The views wonderful Old harry Rock good walk there.

We stayed here for 5 nights in a private family ensuite room. A car park is adjacent to the property and we were always able to find a space. This is a beautiful Victorian building and it was a real joy to stay here. The self catering kitchen is modern and spacious, and everything worked well. The only things that were maybe missing were flat baking trays - it was tricky for people with pizzas to cook them in the ovens. Our room (Room 6) had a beautiful view of the sea and I believe that room 5 also has a good view of the sea. Our room slept 5 and had a very large shower ensuite - fabulous shower, very powerful. The only room that maybe needed slight improvement was the lounge - this is an absolutely beautiful room with wood panelling, but sadly it lacks good lighting for reading. This room could be vastly improved with 3-4 floor lamps (the type that have an uplighter and also a reading light - £65 from B&Q) We really enjoyed our stay - this is a beautiful youth hostel and perfectly placed for exploring Dorset.

I came here with family members for a short seaside break. The rooms were clean but pretty small and it was a short walk to the nearest toilets and shower rooms. The kitchen was well appointed, with 3 cooking stations, but still got quite crowded at meal times and some people were taking up so much room in the shared fridges that it was hard to find anywhere to store our fresh food items. Many families were letting their kids run riot around the hostel, making a lot of noise, even in the lounge (which I think should be for quiet activities and/or adults only). There was also a lot of thumping on the ceiling above us, which I think was people jumping off the top bunk. Not as good as our experience at Berwick YHA, but a good location (although note that the hostel is at the top of a very steep hill down to the beach, so not suitable for those with mobility issues).
