I do not recommend this hotel, especially for anyone of melanated backgrounds. While the head manager, Puta, was very kind and helpful—I was able to speak with him on the phone in the lobby and negotiate a fair price for a late-night arrival, my initial check-in experience was pleasant—the issues began with the day-to-day staff. The next morning, I cheerfully inquired about long-term stays in the area, specifically homes, with Putu, the day-to-day manager. He dismissed my request and implied that I could not afford the options he knew, as he only knew options above 35 million IDR. Mind you, he has no idea what I do for a living. He suggested a cheap apartment up the road. At that moment, a white woman from Australia arrived, and even though there was plenty of staff available to assist her, Putu immediately seemed irritated that I was still seeking information from him, so I ended the conversation. He was so embarrassing! I decided it’s my first time ever in Bali, and I would not let a rude comment like that ruin my experience. During my stay, I requested room cleaning twice: once the day after checking in and again the night before checking out. The first time, the service was excellent; the staff brought new sheets and pillows, tidied up, and even dried the floor on a rainy day. However, the second time was a completely different experience. The younger staff members sent to clean were dismissive and did a poor job. They didn’t change the sheets or blankets and left the floor completely wet. Water was everywhere. When I politely asked for a towel to dry the floor myself, they seemed annoyed. After I realized the bedding hadn’t been changed either, I asked for them to return and was ignored for an hour, even though I left the door open for them to come in freely. I was busy online, so I wasn’t even paying attention at first. I eventually stripped the bed myself and sat in the lobby until the staff finally addressed the issue. For this to happen, I still had to speak with Putu, the day-to-day manager, about the request for them to finally provide this service. Shockingly, one of the young staff members called me a derogatory name in Indonesian, and another made an obscene gesture towards me (the middle finger while laughing). I was so shocked I didn’t have words. This was the last thing I expected when vacationing here. What should have been a pleasant stay turned very ugly because I simply expected basic service. Once I was checking out, the manager, Putu asked if I would return. I explained why I wouldn’t, and he just apologized without much concern. Melanated guests from countries like America, Canada, anywhere from the continent of Africa, and even the pristine Caribbean islands such as Jamaica, Saint Lucia, and more, I cannot recommend this hotel. The treatment I received made it clear they favor guests with lighter skin tones, which sadly influenced the quality of service I experienced, despite paying the same as anyone else. Aka, they are ******, and this is a ****** hotel. Again, this experience here will not stop me from embracing future beautiful experiences I am meant to have while visiting Bali.

Great stay. Complete breakfast with delicious fruits. Staff ready to help at anytime and very lovely. The room was very nice, including a nice bed, chair and desk for work. The shower was very good too, comparing to others I’ve stayed in Indonesia. I’d definitely stay again and for longer.

I spent 5 nights at Kose Villas Ubud, and this is one of those places where the setting truly shapes half of the experience. Location & vibe Kose Villas sits right in the middle of rice fields—quiet, lush, and instantly calming. It feels like Ubud suddenly switches to “slow living” mode. The views are unquestionable: absolutely beautiful. If you’re coming for serenity and scenery, this is exactly why you’d stay here. Important note about the access road One thing to keep in mind: getting to the villas involves walking/driving through the rice fields on a narrow path, with a small stream/irrigation canal running alongside. If you’re not a confident rider/driver (especially on a scooter), or if walking is difficult for you, this could be a challenge—particularly in the evening or if you’re carrying heavy luggage. The staff offer a motorbike transfer to and from the main road. I personally walked every time, and it took about 5–7 minutes at a relaxed pace. It’s a lovely walk—just important to know the setup in advance. The room: airy, high ceilings & a glass wall My standard villa felt genuinely nice: high ceilings, lots of space, and one full glass wall that makes the room feel even more open. I had a unit with a garden view and a small kitchen. I didn’t cook at all, but having a fridge was truly convenient (water, fruit, snacks—anything you want to keep for the next morning). There’s also a kettle, but oddly the only option provided was instant coffee sachets—no tea (a small detail, but in Ubud it feels like tea should be a given). Bathroom & shower The bathroom and shower are standard and fine. The only thing I noticed: the “hot” water felt slightly lukewarm, even at the maximum setting. It didn’t bother me—since the weather was hot, a cooler shower actually felt refreshing. But if you love a truly hot shower, it’s something to note (and perhaps for the hotel to check). What disappointed me A few things kept this from feeling like a fully polished villa stay: • No hair dryer—at all. I asked at reception, and it turns out the hotel simply doesn’t have hair dryers. For this type of stay, that’s a surprising and inconvenient omission. • Not enough lighting in the evening. During the day it’s bright and beautiful, but once the sun sets the room feels quite dim—there aren’t enough lamps for a comfortable evening (reading, working, getting ready). • “Shared” pool, but not really. I was a bit confused to learn the shared pool isn’t shared across the whole property, but only for two units (1 and 2). The place also seemed quite empty during my stay, yet I still wasn’t offered access to the pool. Not a huge deal, but it did feel like a service/communication gap. Overall Overall, I left with a positive impression, mostly thanks to the location: rice fields, quiet, gorgeous views, and a real sense of privacy. It’s a great place for a reset—slow mornings, nature all around, and that “Ubud green” backdrop. That said, if the hotel wants to consistently earn a higher rating, it should improve a few basics: provide hair dryers, add better lighting, communicate more clearly about the pool, and possibly check the water temperature.
