The Linden Stansted

My daughter bought a gift voucher here in error for my birthday. It should have been from a similar named establishment in Cheshire . A simple mistake that should have been easily rectifiable . Not so. After 3 emails and 8 telephone calls this establishment has now refused to refund the £50. Poor behaviour from the management who are not really aligned with providing a solution to small problem .

The whole experience was great. The room was very comfortable and clean. Bedding was soft and fluffy. The restaurant was amazing. The food was of a very high quality both at breakfast and dinner. The best thing about this stay for us was the friendliness of staff. Especially the lady who served our breakfast and the two young waiters who served our dinner on consecutive nights. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel. A fantastic place.

We had the best Valentines Day meal ewe have ever had on a Valentines Day evening. Good menu and the food was wonderful. Rooms are well equipped and very pleasant .we found all the staff. Particularly the manager, are extremely friendly and helpful

We are Stansted residents , and have eaten here in past. Third party feedback suggested that maybe place had improved so we decided to retry. We wished we hadn't. We arrived on time for 7pm booking, ordered drinks from the bar and told the barman we had booked. Drinks were promptly served., then nothing. After 10/15 minutes I asked for menus which were given, and a little later found out soup of day. By 7:30pm still no interest in us from restaurant and we gave up. Fortunately Stansted has other restaurants and we were able to get in elsewhere. Had the restaurant been busy, there might have been some excuse, but there were only two tables occupied, and we saw no food come out from kitchen in the 30 minutes we sat there being ignored. While the hotel bit may well be fine forget the restaurant

I stayed for the weekend to attend a friend’s birthday party in Bishop Stortford. I was absolutely blown away with the luxurious 4 poster bed room I was given (room 6) on the ground floor. Very spacious, and beautifully furnished. The young man that checked me in carried my bag to my room for me, showed me where everything was and also explained about breakfast times. The room was lovely and clean, the bed was amazingly comfortable , there were 2 bottles of water together with a great selection of teas and proper little bottles of milk instead of the rubbish little plastic cartons you sometimes get in other hotels. The bathroom was fairly small with a walk in shower, loo and sink, but it didn’t matter, only in there in my own. Now the shower, OMG the shower was AMAZING!! Instant hot water every time and so powerful. All of the staff I met were so friendly and helpful. I drank in the bar and ate in the restaurant at both lunch time and in the evening, both times the food was extremely good and the service was brilliant. I can’t wait to visit again. Highly recommended!

We stayed at The Linden for 2 nights, as part of a booking of 2 rooms with friends from overseas. At first the place looked great and as the only guests we were excited. However the cracks began to appear quite quickly unfortunately… First the room was lovely but some things were knackered and should have been repaired / replaced long ago - particularly the chair (see photo). The foam inside was exposed through ripped fabric so we didn’t sit on it as it’s very unhygienic. Also, a missing bulb could easily have been replaced. Second, the owner / chef was apparently staying in a guest room above our friends’ room. A little strange but we didn’t care until he started played music at 3am on the second night?! We assume it was him as there was no one else staying at the hotel and the sleepy village doesn’t have a party atmosphere. Also there was a young guy hanging around when we checked in who the owner seemed phased by so we assume he knew him? Either way the young guy was smoking and scowling so not the nicest welcome when we arrived. Third, breakfast was pretty good but despite being handed a coffee menu (with cappuccinos etc on it) we were told on the first day that only regular filter coffee was available. That’s fine but a bit frustrating as we had already been shown a coffee menu. Fourth and most annoying was the fact there was nowhere for our group to sit, day or night. The lounge area of the hotel was locked and we couldn’t access it after breakfast, so we literally all had to huddle on one bed in our room to hang out in the evening - which was especially not ideal as we had a baby with us so it was a very short evening for all. The bar / restaurant part of the hotel was never open while we were there, and even at check in a key was just left in a box for us, so no real hotel experience. Just a room with breakfast. Fifth, our room was not made up even though we went out from 11am to 6pm, and put the ‘Please make up room sign’ on our door. When I asked why not, we were told they only clean the rooms every other day over the holidays. Again, that would have been fine had we known, but with baby nappies and lots of garbage from having a gathering in our room, it was a bit annoying. Clearly cleaning is an issue here as our friends found a used tube of personal lubricant in their drawer. Luckily they aren’t precious so they just chucked it out, but a lot of people would have found this really gross. Generally the place looked clean so this might have been a one off. I would stay here again, but I’d moderate my expectations, and not choose it for a place to catch up with friends.

Really lovely little hotel. I stayed in Room 6, with the four poster bed. My daughter and granddaughter stayed in Room 7, a Classic King. You just need to aware that both rooms get traffic noise as they’re close to the road, especially room 7. So best to ask for a quieter room, or bring earplugs! Also, the rooms were too warm and stuffy. My bed was unbelievably comfortable, so I slept well. We only took breakfast at the hotel and it was excellent. Great quality orange juice and breakfast ingredients. The staff we met were very friendly and efficient. The hotel wasn’t at busy though, and probably don’t make enough of their proximity to Bishop’s Stortford. We were there for a family event in Stotford and it was only a 10 minute taxi ride away. About 8 other couples stayed at the only hotel in BS and absolutely hated it. I’d avoided it because of its TripAdvisor rating (2 dot) and reviews and definitely made a good choice. The only other thing to be aware of is that there’s no on site parking at The Linden. There’s a public car park just over the road that’s reasonably priced. I was concerned at first because parking is only charged from 8am to 5pm and I was thinking I’d have to set the alarm for 8am to refresh parking. But if you use the MiPermit parking app, you can specify when you want the parking session to start. You can’t do that on the car park machine.

Extremely comfortable rooms with everything you need! Staff are brilliant, always helpful and friendly! Food is excellent! Definitely recommend staying here! Very characterful old building but we’ll maintained! No on site car parking but public car park 100 yards away!

This is a charming hotel with wonderful staff who were helpful, personable and delightful. Our room was a nice size with a large bathroom. Super comfortable beds and lovely linens. We loved this hotel with the great bar area and a quaint dining room. We would highly recommend this hotel.
