Rivendell Guest House

Lovely clean room with fresh towels daily. Everything worked as it should. Easy walk from the train station and town centre a very quick taxi ride away. Would definitely stay here again and owner kept me up to speed via email. Nice quiet street

Stayed in room 4 - a single room for 1 night. Reasonably priced room. Very clean. No interaction at check in (boxes on wall) which is useful and covid safe (bit sad to see thats how the world is going). One thing I would say is the bathroom was very narrow! Someone with wider hips or a larger build may struggle to sit comfortably in the space given. Will probably return when I next stay in area

This is far overdue. My husband and I traveled from Pittsburgh PA almost 3 years ago, to sail on a cruise from South Hampton and booked a stay here. The room, staff and everyone associated with Rivendell Guest House were so outstanding. I specifically remember the "full English breakfast" and how amazing the breakfast and stay was. As we walked our suitcases down the walkways and streets, amazingly a couple came upon us and offered us a ride to the cruise ship. They were relations to the people who owned the Rivendell and recognized us. We were eternally grateful for their assistance and never forgot it. I just recently found my reservation and wanted to give a big shout out to their hospitality and friendship!!

I wrote a review when we stayed for 4 nights in August 2022. I am making the effort to write another, since my original review is no longer to be found. I do not understand why the good reviews remain and the bad reviews disappear. Is Rivendell getting friends to give good reviews and are not actual guests. The rooms are very tiny. The bed horribly uncomfortable and no place to sit in the room other than on the bed. The pictures of the rooms are deceiving. Note when booking a room, there are not pictures assigned to that booking. There was no breakfast and was advised too late to change reservations. There was no one around to help with the luggage on the steep narrow stairs, as originally said there would be. No light bulbs at the side table lamps. Instant coffee and tea on a wobbly TV tray. Bathroom tiny, toiletries was one liquid soap, for hands, face, shower and hair. We have stated in allot of places, would not go back to this one. Also, I choose the option to pay at property. They charged my credit card days before my arrival, not on my arrival. Probably because they knew no one would be there for our arrival, as promised. The clean room had black around the bottom of the shower and the windows. During the hot spell in England at the time. Just advising I am rewriting this review again, since my original somehow was removed. I wonder if this one will stay up. I am a valid guest, I have the confirmation # and the charge on my credit card to prove it.

The staff (whom I communicated with via the messaging service of ******* and the hotel) where very helpful and prompt at replying to me re. arrival time and accessing the key, which was easily done by using a code. There were three fairly narrow parking spaces in the driveway of the property. Unfortunately, there was a huge van parked in the middle, and so I could only park half of my vehicle into a space. The room was quite small, but cosy and a little stuffy. I would have preferred the bathroom to be by the main room, but it was in fact across the hallway instead and I had to use a key to enter it. It was very small with a toilet and shower. No sink. The shower water took about 4 minutes to become hot. Sadly, at the front of the property, the next door property residents were very noisy with their social gathering (or rather, anti-social). Their TV was very loud also. Not very considerate to other residents. They were still chatting loudly at 2am. I had to use earplugs. Otherwise, it was à comfortable room. At one end of the road, (with your back to the property, turn left) there was a pub and a few fast food places, including a good grilled chicken takeaway) about 10 minutes walk away.

I’ve stayed at this guesthouse for two nights-clean, tidy room with a private shower. Very simplistic and basic, but they offer complimentary coffe,biscuits and teas. There is also a kettle and a hair dryer in the room. Friendly host, a nice place to stay.

Good communication before arrival about entering accommodation. Clean basic, quiet and good value.

I thought I was booking a bed and breakfast and I was informed after I had checked in that there was no breakfast 😡

Advertisement mentions complimentary Wi-Fi, which was not present. Or at least password was nowhere to be found. Staff didn’t answer my email and there was nobody on site to ask. During the night there was a lot of partying going in the neighbouring buildings and the sound came through the walls load and clear.
