I stayed here with 2 friends last week for 5 nights in a triple room. Word of warning for anyone considering a triple room - there's minimal privacy! Whilst the breakfast options are good, it can get hectic in the breakfast room. One morning, both coffee machines broke which means we had to leave the hotel to get coffee which isn't ideal. On this morning, it seems the hotel was short staffed as there was no cutlery or plates, cups, etc. We had to write this morning off and seek breakfast elsewhere, too. The young man who works the night shift seems to dislike his job, a lot. We encountered him a few times. I tried to make conversation with him on two occasions - he simply was not bothered to attempt to engage. We also got stuck in the elevator one morning. It took approx 5 minutes for a staff member to help us despite pressing the call bell three times. They powered down the elevator (to be left in complete darkness!) and once the door opened, they told us that ”this sometimes happens”. Completely unacceptable. We did meet one lovely staff member who worked at the bar. He was so courteous and helpful and always took time to chat. He's the reason this review is 3 stars as opposed to 2.

A well situated hotel on a traffic circle, with a very large dirt parking lot on the next street, just past the Burger King. The rooms are spacious, the beds comfortable, and the breakfast very varied, in small servings. The bathrooms are old fashioned and the stock of towels reduced to a minimum. The staff is not very experienced - when guests arrive at 2:30 am they let them have loud conversations in the lobby, that wakes up people sleeping on the 2nd floor, and even worse, they put them in rooms adjoining those already occupied. The hotel has 9 floors and was almost empty, but they don't even have the attention to install these customers on another floor or at least leave a break room, so we only went back to sleep after 3 am. The walls are thin and the conversation could be heard perfectly. Another sample of inexperience: the receptionist who went to see why our TV had ”no signal” suggested that the maintenance could deal with the problem (a broken cable) the next day, and looked like he had heard a bright idea when I suggested he go to an unoccupied room to get an identical cable, which he happily did.
DDeparture39877994689A nice Holiday Inn Express property north of the main city center. First the pros: - Super helpful reception staff. Were willing to help us with every thing we needed as tourists. - Gracious breakfast area staff. Always wishing us and thanking us. - compact, modern room layouts. - windows that open to let in fresh air. - good wifi signal. - bus stop to catch the 601 to downtown Porto right in front of hotel. - good water pressure in shower. - decent free breakfast with great coffee selection, hot scrambled eggs, cold ham, Turkey, cheese, variety of pastries, selection of juices. We loved it and fueled up well before our downtown walks. Now the cons: - this hotel is close to the ports. Not really a con. Just an observation 🙂 - it's quite a distance from the main city center. That being said the 601 bus will take you right to the Cordreira in about 30 to 40 minutes depending on traffic. - not much around the hotel as far as restaurants, sights etc. Everything worth seeing is a bus or Uber ride away. - there is a self service laundry about a 12 minute walk to the north east of the hotel. Ask the reception for direction and make sure you have euros as the laundry facility does not take credit cards. - the bathroom in my room (214) could have used a little fix up. There was a small patch of flooring missing right outside the shower. We covered it with a bath mat so it didn't bother us. A little chlorine/bleach solution could've taken care of the few mold areas at the corners of the bathtubs. Pictures included. - No safe in the room. - No fridge in the room. That's it. Very little to complain about honestly. All in all a good stay and we would come back.
I cannot fault this hotel. The staff are very friendly and multilingual. The quality of the hotel food and services is excellent. The whole place is very clean and well maintained. The bedrooms are spacious and quiet. The hotel is well situated for accessing the university and local shops.
