Gaslamp Hostel

A great little hostel in the centre of town. A very well laid out hostel with a nice common area and clean and comfy rooms/bathrooms. Good transport links nearby to get around the city and to the airport.

Staff very friendly they answered all my question I recommend this place .

The Golden West Apartments is at the next block (Google or Yelp) which I suspect is used as a mens homeless shelter as there are ************ and mentally unstable screaming air punching while loitering in front of the building and surrounding area. Due to its close proximity I did not feel safe walking a block from the Hostel at night

No elevator. Luckily upon arrival & departure was assisted with carrying my suitcase up and down two staircases to and from private room by a hostel employee and then a kind guest. Cleanliness was on point. Private room was adequate but in middle of night going to bathroom and shower had to walk around guests who chose instead to sleep on couches all night instead of in their bunk room. The place was freezing with NO heating during winter until next morning when front desk reopened at 8am and I requested that heat be turned back on. That happened twice and since it was during winter it was not comfortable nor enjoyable. The neighborhood has really gone down hill in last couple years. Too many sketchy characters and I did not feel safe walking around by myself at night. I believe there is a men’s homeless shelter in next block. Chose this location because there are a couple of excellent restaurants (next door) and fun bars; had been in area during daylight hours in past. Will not return although decor was charming with hippie era decor.

everything was perfect….. except the shower. Loved the staff, the decor, the lounge, convenient location, the little chocolates in my room! The shower experience was rough though. Dribble weak water pressure and it never got hot, not even luke warm. 1 of the 2 I can deal with but the combo was not ideal.
