R2 Bahia Kontiki

Having stayed at the Bahia Kontiki before in a beautiful 2 bedroom apartment facing the sea we returned April 2024 hoping for a similar experience. I have just read a review by Daniel B dated 5 Apr and we must have been given the same totally unsuitable rooms as him. The first, immediately to the left as you enter the complex towards the bottom of cardiac hill was initially a bit disappointing with the patio area facing a wall and low walls between adjacent apartments; we were also concerned about the proximity of the bottle banks and the gate to the complex but thought we’d see how it went. They didn’t disturb us at all - but at 7.30am we awoke startled by the sound of fierce cascading water followed by an almighty clank/thud. The wall of one of the bedrooms shook. This happened about half a dozen times before my husband went out to investigate. There was a storeroom next to the bedroom and at the back of it next to the bedroom wall was a standpipe from which the maid was filling buckets and buckets of water. There was no way we could sleep through that every day. We went to Reception and reported the problem and were offered a change of room. We asked if we could pay for an upgrade but the hotel was full so we were shown to 1109. To get to this room you come out of the hotel and then along a passage at the back of a row of apartments, then there is a narrow opening and around the corner is the room. To be fair we were shown the room & visually inside it seemed fine, patio area again disappointing, facing a wall & low wall to the next apartment but we accepted it and moved. Once inside we noticed the smell - dank and musty. The bathroom door didn’t close but that was quickly fixed after we reported it. As was the toilet when it wouldn’t flush. When we reported the toilet we also told them about the smell (I asked if we could have some air fresheners) and also advised about the shower which went from the temperature you wanted to extremely hot to very cool about every 30 seconds. The shower wasn’t fixed and the smell is probably permanent. Instead of a cleaners’ storeroom this room had a laundry storage room outside and they started banging around with the big laundry cages about 8am! No chance of a lie in on this holiday. Everything else is lovely at this hotel so my advice would be to pay for a better room to ensure you don’t get what we (& Daniel B) did. Don’t know if people booking direct might get better rooms? We were with Jet2. Although we had a fabulous room the first time we stayed here we will never return after this experience.

Just returned from 9 day stay, hotel spotless. The beautiful pool area had sun beds around it, also there is a separate sunbathing area with sea views, we had no problem getting a sun bed, you are asked not to reserve beds if your not using them and in general I would say people took this on board. Our room was down the hill nearer the main beach area and it was spotless and cleaned with fresh towels every two days. Plenty of kitchen items if you wanted to self-cater and all furniture was like new. Some noise from the bottle bank across the road as it was emptied early each day but this did not bother us to much. Very handy location near to the beach, restaurants and bars. Yes the hill up to the main entrance is steep but it’s what I expected and worth it for the views. 100 percent will return.

Best apartments we have stayed at in Lanzarote. Very clean, modern, spacious, good sized balcony, black out curtains, bathrobes provided, Flat screen TVs in living room and bedroom with BBC, ITV and channel 4 available. Hotel area also very clean and modern with friendly helpful staff. Very nice pool and sunbathing area with sea view. Only 2 min walk away from bars and restaurants but not too close so no noise at night time. Brilliant, we will be back next year.

Firstly, I emailed in advance about getting a nice room because it’s our anniversary. The room looks directly at the huge air con unit on the roof in front of us. Obscuring the view. Also, it’s quite noisy. The room itself is poorly painted in places with bubbling paint. It has a musty smell. Also, the breakfast is of very poor quality. The ingredients feel very cheap. From the bread which is still cold from being defrosted to the orange juice which feels synthetic. Surely you could do fresh orange juice in Spain. It is my first time staying here and I booked directly. I don’t think I will be back nor recommend this to friends. All of the above were mentioned to the people at reception to no avail.

We stayed for a week from 12th March on a self catering basis. Supermarket across the road made it straight forward. Room was modern and very clean, cleaners visit every other day. Nice touches are liquid soap in the bathroom and kitchen, as well as tea towel and replenished loo roll’s etc. Pool is great and very refreshing, plenty of sun loungers with a terraced area for those who prefer it more quiet. Staff were great and very helpful. It was a surprise to have to purchase Wi-Fi each day but this did not distract at all. Short walk down the hill to the main ***** and beach. Overall great location, very clean and modern.

We have just returned from 10 nights at this hotel and we had a fantastic time, the rooms were spotless and very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was only 5 metres from the pool and there was always plenty of Sunbeds available. We were on b&b and the breakfasts were really good, plenty of choice and different on a daily basis. We would definitely return to this hotel again.

Stayed here for a week at the beginning of March. The place is lovely and is perfectly situated near all the bars, restaurants and shops. Overall it's very nice but does have it's flaws. We was greeted on arrival and checked in quickly and was also offered a free welcome drink which was a very nice touch. Everything looks spotlessly clean and very well looked after. Pool area and chill out areas very nice and quiet and relaxing. After our welcome drink we went to our room. We had been given room 3210 which was down the bottom of the hill and up a couple of flights of stairs (the hill is steep but we didn't find it that bad at all if you don't have mobility issues). The room itself is great, large kitchen area, lovely bathroom and spacious living area. Living area was overlooking the chill out area with some view of the sea. The breakfast has a lovely selection and was very tasty and fresh. The negatives: We didn't like our balcony at all. We had been given a balcony that was tucked away in a corner but was also kind of joined on to another corner balcony from the other side angled to face our balcony. There was absolutely no privacy at all and you could could literally lean over and touch the other balcony. The balcony light also didn't work but we didn't spend hardly any time on the balcony anyway due to the lack of privacy which was disappointing. The other negative was that our bedroom was facing the hill which was directly opposite the bottle bin that multiple bars use to empty glass bottles. All I can say is good luck trying to get any sleep before approx 1/2am if you fancied an early night. This bin is used from early morning until the bars and restaurants close. The soundproofing in the rooms is not great so we were kept awake and woken up quite a few times. I know you can't help where bins are located but this really is a huge negative if you value a good night sleep. If you plan to stay out late then this probably won't bother you. Overall it was a lovely stay but we probably wouldn't stay here again unless we knew we was getting a quieter room away from the bottle bin.

Book direct with hotel . Third time here . Lovely fizz and fruit awaiting in room . Welcome drinks lovely . Staff very friendly and helpful . Had to leave early as my Father had a fall . Staff very caring and helpful . Food lovely in restaurant . All the staff very friendly . Clean room . Our room 1120 great . Huge terrace to sit on . Sheltered sun trap . Would come again .

The Hotel and Apartments are good, and they are cleaned every other day, but we stayed at a 3 star hotel in Tenerife last February and it was far nicer than Kontiki. We did have an issue with our room requests, I appreciate allocating rooms is challenging, however I booked this 10 day break around 12 months ago, and it wasn’t cheap because we had sea views, I also asked for apartments together, but one of the couples were situated in a different part of the complex, and the ones next door to ours had a very small and badly shaped balcony, which wasn’t comfortable or even private to sit on, it was right next to the next door apartment, but on a right angle. The hotel emailed me the day after check in and asked if everything was OK, I explained the apartment situation, and they also said we we want your stay to be happy, I then didn’t hear anything off them until checking out this morning. As I say, the hotel was fine, but they didn’t do anything to help us out. Will not be returning here again.
