Hotel le Mahana

We had a very good stay at Le Mahana. We stayed in a waterfront bungalow. This hotel is in a perfect spot for snorkelling and snorkel gear can be provided if needed. Friendly staff, spotlessly clean, good breakfast. Easy to book trips and car hire.

Lovely big rooms with air conditioning, friendly helpful staff. Good choice at breakfast with eggs cooked fresh when you wanted them. Good choice of food and wine at the restaurant! Small beach with sunbeds, no crowds or noise. Idyllic spot!

The location is stunning, right on the beach. But the property is a bit worn down and lacking in functional details. We stayed 3 nights in a beachfront bungalow. The bungalow could use an upgrade. Lots of animals around, probably picking or scratching the ceiling and walls, which resulted in small pieces on the different surfaces as well as poo. Above the bed near the ceiling, there is a cover, so there is no poo in the bed. The so-called garden area was not maintained and not apealling at all. You could not take a shower without getting water all over the floor. We were missing the possibility to clean our feet right next to the entrance. Overall, it's not the best designed bungalow. The reception staff was pretty friendly. The restaurant was a very mixed experience. We had both breakfast, lunch, and dinner there during our stay. The service differed between very friendly and extremely rude and arrogant. We do not speak French, and most of the staff don't speak English, so it was a bit complicated at times. Sometimes the food came extremely fast and other times it took forever and it was not correlated to the number of guests. The food was ok, but we had expected better. It is very overpriced compared to the quality and quantity. There aren't many places nearby, which they know so they kind of get away with being expensive and not being very serviceminded. The lunch menu had more variety than the dinner menu. Sometimes, there are many boats and daily visitors, which make the property a bit crowded.

The bungalow was spacious and clean. Breakfast and dinner were plentiful and tasty. The hotel beach was clean and inviting for swimming. The staff was extremely nice and always helpful. The reception even actively helped with rebooking and transfers to the next island, which we really appreciated. The only negative point was that the capital was about a 45 minute drive from the hotel.

Wifi is limited to the common areas. While having lunch one of afternoons a mouse was exploring for food in the patio which for us was a bummer. Also the facility would benefit from improving the vegetarian/vegan menu options. Too many smokers allowed in the eating patio areas. Otherwise we had a fine stay.

We staying in the Lagoon View Bungalow and it was perfect. Loved the shower that opened up into the back garden. Nice view of the lagoon and very convenient to the restaurant. People were wonderful in taking care of everything for you. It was easy to rent a car from the lobby and be picked up for excursions. Having breakfast and dinner included was also very nice. Wonderful memories.

Booking is not a booking… they send you another confirmation that they actually have rooms (very confusing if you’re booking a multi island trip yourself) I never for the email they didn’t have space so had to rebook our whole trip very last minute.

We really enjoyed Le Mahana. We stayed in the lagoon front bungalow which was very spacious and quiet. It is a duplex but there was no one in the other side for our stay. The snorkeling was good and right off the beach. The food was very good but we really enjoyed the breakfast buffet. There was a Polynesian show one night. The front desk staff were so kind and helpful. Next time I think we would stay in a beachfront bungalow although they are a little smaller than the lagoon bungalow. Would definitely stay again.

We stayed for a full week at Hotel Le Mahana, and would gladly return. Our first night was in a Semi-detached Lagoonfront bungalow with the remaining nights in #6, a Deluxe Beachfront bungalow. A last minute airline schedule change required us to add on a night, and the beachfront bungalow was not available that night. The semi-detached bungalow was very spacious and had some updated features, specifically the flooring and bathroom area. The deck is huge on these units, but you do have a neighbor sharing a wall. It would be great for a large group wanting to slide open the divider between the two sides on the deck. The beachfront bungalow was a bit smaller, but had plenty of room for the two of us for a week. We stored snacks and drinks in the small refrigerator. Our location was away from the main beach area and very quiet and peaceful. Just a few steps from our deck and down the small embankment to the sand and water. Paradise! #6 has very little afternoon shade, but is otherwise in an ideal location for privacy and quiet. The indoor/outdoor shower is a little quirky, but the clothesline in the small enclosure behind the shower came in very handy. The restaurant menu had plenty of variety to keep us from getting bored over the 7 days, and everything we tried was delicious and well prepared. The desserts are incredible! Breakfast got a bit monotonous and could offer more variety, especially in the fresh fruit offerings. There are a few local restaurants within walking distance if you choose to venture out. We really enjoyed the Tahitian dance/music group that performed on Thursday evening. Snorkeling in front of the hotel is not bad at all with a lot of corals especially on the north side of the dock. There are plenty of kayaks and SUP for guests to use as well as snorkeling equipment (no need to take up luggage space with bulky fins!). The catamaran for our final four nights of the trip picked us up right at Le Mahana's dock which was a nice bonus. The staff were all friendly and welcoming, and very responsive to any requests. The Europcar desk right in the lobby was very handy as we did a couple of half-day rentals while we were there. Hotel Le Mahana was our favorite location of the places we've stayed in the Society Islands. I can see why people return again and again!
