My family of 4 checked into The Premier Inn Newcastle Airport as we have a 5.55am flight the next morning. The price, staff and location were all good, but when entering the room we noticed it was already pretty warm. After exploring the air con system we noted it was locked at the minimum temperature of 20 degrees, which had no chance of cooling an already hot room. We checked with reception, who acknowledged this was not ideal, but all rooms are locked at this temperature and there was nothing they could do. After attempting to sleep early in preparation for our early flight the room just got hotter and hotter. We had all windows open and a fan blasting on full (which just added noise to the already unbearable situation). In short the whole point of checking in next to the airport so we could maximise sleeping time ahead of our flight was ruined by this crazy system they have of locking temperatures in rooms. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but if like us you were thinking of staying to maximise sleep even if only by a few hours...... DONT!! I'd rather have only had a few hours sleep and then commuted here rather than no sleep and roll into the airport with 3 other very stressed and unhappy family members. Terrible experience as a result and The Premier Inn should offer the basics as a room that allows you to adjust temperatures and be able to sleep. As they don't, I'd recommend to avoid this like the plague or potentially try your luck in the local sauna!!
