Oldonyo Lodge

The accommodations are spectacular as is the food. The watering hole was amazing for seeing animals close up. And our guide was exceptional. Saw numerous lions (resting, enjoying a fresh kill, and roaring during mating season). The visit to the nearby village was really educational and important for our family.

Ol’ Donyo Lodge was a magnificent experience, and the staff made it that way. You definitely get the “Out of Africa” feeling at this beautiful property, and the experiences we had were wonderful! We saw a great amount of game, and the big Tuskers at the watering hole were amazing. We visited a school, went to the Cow market as well as the regular outdoor market, and even had a demonstration by Bonnie and Clyde, 2 bloodhounds who are a great anti-poaching team! From Ashley the GM, to our fabulous guide Dan and his cousin Jackson who made sure we had perfect food for every meal, the staff is friendly, sincere and will go above and beyond to make you happy. Ol’ Donyo is an excellent choice for a safari lodge in Kenya, with the backdrop of Mt. Kilimanjaro and an experience you will not soon forget!

We had to leave and had to make a new reservation at a different hotel. We drove in and waited at the gate for 15 minutes and in pitch darkness before someone came to open the gate. The gate is almost a quarter mile away from the main buildings. We honked multiple times and I had to leave the safety of my car to knock at the gate. The room we were assigned was Dirty with falling window curtains. Water was shut off and we had to wait for them to run around to get it running. The toilet was dirty with brown water sitting in there even after flushing the toilet. There was No TV in the room contrary to the advert and when we asked why, we were told that they were working towards buying some. Most scary was that we were the only guests in the facility. It was deserted. Initially we could not locate the hotel but when we called the number provided, it was answered by a lady who told us that she had quit her job a year ago but she kind enough to give us directions. In summary, we couldn’t get ourselves to stay there had to make a late reservation at a different location. This hotel should NOT be on ******* in the first place. It’s a dead location. We were in the middle of nowhere in pitch darkness with little to no help.
