Trenython Manor

We stayed at the Sea View Lodge and had a fantastic stay there. The lodge is huge, very clean and for us the right choice as a family with 2 kids. The pool in the main building is great, too.

We arrived at the hotel and was asked if we had a dog. We said no, we did not pay for a dog either. We were then shown to a basement garden room in the hotel, which we discovered these rooms are for people with dogs. We had a key to the back door of the room, which opened up to a patio and gardens. The room had two large stains on the carpet and the stairwell to the room smelt of dogs. We also asked for a twin bedded room and got a king size double. We then waited for the bed to be altered into a twin but a single duvet could not be found in the whole hotel, so we spent 5 nights in a single bed with a king size duvet. Breakfast was average. Altogether a disappointing experience and welcome, from a name I would have expected more from.

We stayed at this hotel earlier in the summer with family but were overall very disappointed with our stay. Although the rooms are spacious (we had paid extra for a sea view) and the beds are very comfortable, the breakfast was poor (given the hotel is supported to be 4 star). Many items one would expect were missing - there was no cheese, ham or cold spreads, the cooked eggs and bacon was often almost always cold (kept under lukewarm heaters for hours) and many times had run out. Cereals were very basic and the muesli looked old, the coffee had run out of beans (staff didn’t notice this) and we had to wait ages for it to be replenished…..I could go on but in general we had to constantly search for a waitress to ask for the food to be restocked. Staff also seemed quite unaware of what was going on and looked either half asleep or startled when we asked for something. On one particular morning we asked for a boiled egg and were told this wasn’t possible! When we raised our concerns about the poor breakfast experience to the receptionist (Tom) we were told to send an email and fill out the online contact form for complaints. After a chaser email to the hotel we have had one email back saying it is a very busy period and they asked us to be patient …that was over 4 weeks ago and we still haven’t had a reply. After checking out we across the smart Carlyn Bay hotel in St Austell and wished we had stayed there instead! I would not recommend anyone stay here - there are def nicer places to stay in Cornwall which are better value for money and offer a proper breakfast.
