My wife and I spent a week at this hotel from the 6th to 13th of August 2023. The cost for that room for one week was $1800.00 Canadian dollars. This hotel is literally in the centre of London, a 2 minute walk to Trafalgar Square. The room was extremely tiny, but modern, clean and incredibly quiet This is the smallest hotel room we had ever stayed in. The staff were friendly and very willing to assist us. It was right beside the Charing Cross Police Station. Now,here is the reason for the 1 star rating. We were on a 2 month trip to 5 countries in Europe, because of that I had a large amount of Canadian, US, Euros and British Pounds on me. To my surprise when we checked in to this Hotel Z, I asked about a room safe and I was told that the Hotel Z chain does not have any room safes in any of their rooms, free or for rent. This is the first hotel I have ever heard of that does not have Security safes for valuables. I was not at all comfortable with this, but we had prepaid for the room and I figured just do it. Both the staff and the manager, Anastasia told me that the lack of room safes was a common complaint by many visitors, but the Z Hotel has never done anything to change it. So now I have to carry all of my cash in my "manpurse" attached to my belt on my right side. Honestly, due to the crowds and lineups in London, I checked it continually. On Saturday the 12 of August 2023 we were at one of Londons most famous and religious Cathedrals. We had only been there 15 or 20 minutes, when I realized that one of the zippered pouches on my manpurse was open. . I knew immediately my money was gone. A total of $4115.00 in 4 different currencys that was in 5 separate envelopes was stolen. I immediately notified the staff and security. We waited 2 hours for the CCTV cameras to be checked. They were able to follow us, but due to dark spots in the church they could not spot the THIEF. $4115.00 in cash gone and this is not covered by any travel insurance we have. The staff and security told us that the pick pocket crimes in and around the church were a known and on going problem. After that we were directed to the Charing Cross polce station reporting centre, where the report was filed. With in hours, the Police sent me an email telling me the case was closed due to the lack of likelihood of solving it. I am a 37 year retired Police Officer from Toronto Canada and I ran a Major Crime Unit I downtown Toronto that has a population of almost 4 million people. I know how to deal with these problems. The Police in London basically, file and forget It. I spoke with the manager Anastasia at the Z Hotel and told her that the ONLY REASON I HAD THIS LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY ON ME WAS BECAUSE THE HOTEL Z DOES NOT HAVE ROOM SAFES.She then told me that they did have a company safe that I could have used, BUT No one told me that until now! She agreed that I was right, but her hands were tied by her companies corporate policy. She bought me a drink and that was it
